I have some questions about alcohol addiction?

I have asked before but never got a positive answer. I have been drinking pretty frequently for around 4 months. For around the past 2-3 it has been around 5 days a week. I usually drink between 6 and 12 beers a night and only beer. When i don’t drink I feel much better but fear the withdrawls, should I be worried about withdrawls? If I won’t have severe symptoms I can quit but I am so worried about it after reading up on it.
I also suffer from anxiety and have had some instances that are signaling that it is time to stop drinking..
wow man stopping smoking is something I would like to accomplish one day and quitting meth had to be hell, I just try need to stay out of the “college life” and get on with my studies.
Oh no I have always had terrible anger problems and now everyone just thinks I am completely psycho because of the way I act when I drink. I just become fearless and basically…psycho and I have injured myself many times over the past few months punching things and breaking everything.
Thanks for the information! You all have really eased my anxiety about the whole quitting thing. Websites don’t really specify about how long you have to drink or about the amounts to cause withdrawl. Thanks alot though I feel alot better about it, and now feel I have no reason to avoid it any longer.

What do you think about using methadone for opiate addiction?

It works wonderfully for my herion addiction and I don’t want to go off of it since I know I’d immediately start using again. So many people consider it a “heroin substitute”. However, I DO NOT get high on it and it is medically controlled so when taken correctly, there is little risk of an overdose. Not to mention all the awful things that go along with heroin addiction like the risk of contaminated needles, drugs laced with deadly substances, doing illegal things to get your “fix”, and the fact that you will eventually end up dead or in prison. The problem is that I still have problems with alcohol and cocaine and methadone DOESN’T help with those addictions. I want to get help for all my substance problems but almost all rehabs are VERY AGAINST Methadone. I don’t want to be on Methadone the rest of my life. I will eventually wean myself off (VERY SLOWLY) so that I don’t get sick (it is addictive like heroin). Any thoughts about this? Please be kind. This is rough!

For those who think Marijuana should be Illegal, while alcohol stays legal?

I asked a previous question, what is worse, a child who drinks alcohol or a child who smokes marijuana. I guess I didn’t state my question in an understandable way, since most answers I got were, “both are bad” and “because marijuana is Illegal”

“drinking kills more kids that marijuana, through overdose and driving accidents the number of kids who die from alcohol are staggering compared to marijuana. In fact if i’m not mistake, there has been no documented cases of death from marijuana overdose. Alcoholics are notorious for being violent and abusive, while potheads are notorious for……..eating…….no type of addiction is good, but really what is worse? I would also like to make a disclaimer that a do not smoke pot at all, I tried it a few times and absolutely hated it. It is definately not for me.”

My question is for those who still think it should be Illegal, and alcohol should be legal….why? There is multitudes of evidence showing alcohol to much a much more dangerous drug. It kills more people, creates more addicts, destroys more families, causes more violence, than marijuana.

There is also the issue of medicinal purpose. If nothing else it is known to be an effective pain killer. Of the current pain killers on the market that are legal virtually all cause kidney and liver damage and are hundreds of times more addictive drugs. So, if you think that marijuana should be illegal, and alcohol should be legal, what is your justification?

Are Fox News and O’reilly fair to their viewers?

Please get rid of your political affiliations for that question and try to be objective.

I saw the interview of Obama by O’reilly. It was seriously disgusting. He wouldn’t let Obama answer, kept attacking him, and he would cut him off every time he was trying to make a point. Ok, let’s say he was “excited” to make his point in front of the president-elect.

Now, go back to 2000. I’m just guessing, I don’t have the facts … but did O’reilly invite Bush, as president-elect, and attacked him on his drug-alcohol addiction? Was he cutting him off every time Bush opened his mouth? Did he mention to him how unsuccessful he was when he was in charge of oil companies?

I believe we all know the answer to that.

Alcohol Addiction – What is alcoholism?
Alcohol addiction is simply defined as a compulsive need for an intoxicating liquid that is obtained from fermented grain or fruit. These liquids include beer, wine, and other hard liquors.

Alcoholism is present when a person craves alcohol and cannot limit or contain his or her drinking. If someone experiences withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, sweating, shakiness, or anxiety when alcohol consumption has ceased, or if there is a need to drink greater amounts of alcohol in order to feel a high, that person is most likely alcoholic.

Some may think that it’s just a matter of having the will to stop drinking, but alcoholism is more complicated than that. An alcoholic’s craving for alcohol is so great that it suppresses their ability to stop drinking. The majority of alcoholics need assistance to stop drinking. With treatment and support from family and friends, many have been able to stop drinking and rebuild their lives. It is a sad fact however that there are still some who are unable to stop in spite of these aids.
Alcohol Addiction – What are the causes and effects of alcoholism?
Scientists say that someone who has alcoholic addiction in his/her family is more likely to develop alcoholism if they choose to drink.

Does my friend need alcohol addiction treatment?

I have a friend who stopped drinking alcohol two days ago and she has been experiencing what seems to me like withdrawal symptoms. She’s always craving alcohol and gets clammy hands. I told her these are signs that she should get herself treated for addiction but she won’t listen to me. Am I right? If so, what can I do?

Is there such a thing as doing hard drugs “in moderation”?

Proponents for drug legalization say everyone should be allowed to make their own choices as long as others are not harmed. The problem with this is that no one knows what sort of problems this could lead to and simply disregards the sentiments of a majority of the people. One of their main sticking points they mention is the supposed double standard with the legality of alcohol. But the fact of the matter is, alcohol is for the most part consumed leisurely and in moderation by most people. Is there such a thing as a person who does ***** or heroin in moderation without developing an addiction?

Addiction – What is inherently wrong with it?

(I restarted this question because i laid the last question out sloppily and people were missing my point)

Question: What is wrong with being addicted to something? Everyone is addicted to something right now, but people seem to have this great fear and abhorrence for drug addiction without really explaining or knowing why it seems.

Definition: addiction is a state in which the body relies on a substance for normal functioning and develops physical dependence. When this substance is suddenly removed, it will cause withdrawal, a characteristic set of signs and symptoms

Do we all pretty much agree on these facts about marijuana?

1. Death from Cannabis overdose is virtually unheard of. (And death from alcohol poisoning is a daily occurrence in the United States.)

2. Marijuana has never been shown to be addictive. (And alcohol addiction is one of the worst problems in the United States.)

3. Marijuana usually doesn’t make people mean. (And we have lots of mean drunks.)

4. Marijuana does impair the ability to drive. (And alcohol does this at least three times as bad)
