Are alcohol withdrawal symptoms signs that a person really needs addiction treatment?
I have a friend who happens to be addicted to alcohol. Since she stopped drinking two days ago, she has been experiencing what I think are withdrawal symptoms. She’s having a hard time sleeping, and when she does get to sleep, she experiences bad dreams. She’s also nauseous a lot of times, and her hands get clammy. I’ve already told her to seek medical help, but she’s stubborn and doesn’t want to. Will this go away?

Your friend is having mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms. The best thing to do would be to contact the local hospital and find a doctor who will be able to assess your friend’s condition. Your friend needs to be treated for her withdrawal. Consequences can arise if she doesn’t get treated. She needs social support groups, medication, counseling, and therapy too. You can do an alcohol intervention for her if she refuses to undergo treatment.

YES,It can be very serious.She should go to a ER for proper help. It is dangerous to do alone. They have medication just for that.I know I worked on the floor where they come to sober up because their pancreas is killing them. Very painful. Look this up Naltrexone..

Yes, it is signs of withdrawal, but really she should have done it under medical care – especially if she’s been drinking heavily for more than a year or two. Yes, it’ll go away, but it’s going to be difficult. The thing to watch out for is seizures. She’s going to agitated and irritable while her body goes through the withdrawal, but it WILL pass.

Ive experienced withdrawal myself of a different kind and it is highly unlikely it will go away easily and more likely that she’ll go back to the bottle. I think anyone with an addiction needs some level of professional help. Try to get her to go to AA meetings, even if you have to attend them with her. She needs emotional support just as much as physical help. Take her to the doctor “just to check that everything’s alright” (drag her if you hav to) alcohol can cause serious complications to the body especially in the liver. If she can pull thru the withdrawal she should be fine. Help her as much as you can.

if shes strong and persevere cold turkey will help but she still needs medical guidance. does she want to go thru the pain to stop? the body will take sometime to adjust to pre-addiction normalcy. so pl be careful. must take lots of fluids, rest, also nutritious food eg high protein, sufficient carbo. this will help the body to adjust. all this takes time. patience and tenacity is the only way…..take care goodluck
