If you are looking for intervention services in Canada, our big spectrum of experienced counselors is always ready to help you. We provide you with the best potential interventionist to serve you better.

An intervention process follows a planned method of assisting an addict who has opposed to the previous attempts made by people to help him/her get out from drug and alcohol problem. The purpose of intervention is to help an addict realize the fallacy of his/her self-destructive lifestyle that is dependent on substances and how the same is affecting his/her family members and friends too.

The intervention specialist’s job is to identify and train a group of influential people in the addict’s life prior to the intervention. This influential group could be the addict’s family members, friends, colleagues, church members or even old classmates. After the intervention specialist zeroes in on the influential group of people in the addict’s life, he or she creates a plan of action for attaining the goal of having the addict agree to treatment. This awareness training is accomplished during several pre-arranged meetings. A well-executed intervention service is carried by a professional interventionist, who must be a person with proficiency in counseling for drug and alcohol addiction with ample knowledge of intervention.

The approach towards the addicted should be optimistic and made in a supportive way. Though at times there is no guarantee that an intervention will always go according to plan, it should be kept in mind whatever actions have been taken is done for the betterment of the person who is addicted. So one should get over with the hesitation and take help of counseling for drug and alcohol addiction at the earliest to assist the addict. When the addict finally admits his addiction and agrees to take the help of rehabilitation methods, a visit to the treatment center is required so that the addict can be subjected to the treatment process. The friends and family members are a great support in helping the addict get out of this adverse situation.

Addiction intervention is the first and the most crucial step of the whole process. The interventionists require specific training to deal with the addicts in a tactful way and to perform relentlessly under pressure situations. Along with the intervention training, a thorough knowledge about addictions and human psychology & behavior is necessary to be a good interventionist. Counseling for drug and alcohol addiction is not an easy task either and is generally carried out by proficient counselors with good knowledge on human behavior and addiction symptoms. It is important to have faith on the counselors and doctors when you are getting the addict into the rehab center. They are after all, the ones who are going to take care of the addict and guide him out of his terrible situation.

We have carried out many successful interventions through counseling for drug and alcohol addiction. This process gives motivation to the concerned person to come up and face the world in a better way. It engages the troubled person’s intimate friends and family members in a structured way in order to make recovery fast and easy for the addicted.

It does not matter whether you or someone you know is in need of alcohol addiction treatment, what is important is that it happens in the best and most understanding environment possible. For you or someone you love, drugs and alcohol are terrible things that for many reasons have gripped your life and do not want to let go. All addictions affect not only you and your body, but also your heart, your mind and your family. You need the most intimate and structured setting for your rehabilitation that you can find, to ensure that you get your life back on track.

When you make the decision to take your life back from your addiction, you will find that there are many different centers for drug rehab in Florida. It can be difficult to decide which is the best, so here are a few things to look for to maximize the benefits you will receive. You need a personalized approach from professionals that will not judge you or look down upon you for falling into the grips of addiction, as it could happen to anyone. You want and deserve comprehensive education, so you can better understand the how and why you became addicted to drugs or alcohol.

To make the most of your experience, it is most helpful for you to participate in an alcohol rehab FL center that offers a stunning, quiet and tranquil oceanic setting, in which you can gaze and release yourself from your fears and your pains. With small group settings, you will be able to get more out of each of your sessions during your drug or alcohol addiction treatment, so you can move forward with your life faster and with more confidence. In addition, you will want a center that can offer you psychiatric care in conjunction with your drug or alcohol addiction treatment, so if there are any underlying issues that may cause you to relapse or suffer any kind of setbacks on your road to sobriety, they can be addressed in a timely manner.

Most Drug Rehab in Florida centers are twelve step-based programs, which is beneficial to you because those twelve step programs have a rich history in effectiveness for many people. Also, when you make the choice to join an alcohol rehab FL center, many of them will accept insurance coverage, so that is one less thing you have to burden yourself or your loved ones with. So, in a short period of time you can have your life back, and stay on the right track. The road to recovery is not an easy one, and you will experience the best in mental, physical and spiritual care to ensure that your recovery lasts for the rest of your life.

Question by Melanie: anyone in recovery from addiction?
i just got to 8 months clean from all substances i developed a bad problem with painkillers and occasional cocaine use also smoked weed heavily daily and drank occcasionally… although wat i have learned about recovery tells me that the way to stay clean is to abstain from ALL mood and mind altering substances including weed and alcohol I really would like to be able to drink/smoke again since the harder drugs were my real problem. i would like to hear from anyone who can relate if they have gone through this or what their opinions are.

Best answer:

Answer by D
i am a recovering/recovered(i don’t consider myself fully recovered because i am always tempted) heroin addict, and for a long time i didn’t drink i didn’t smoke or anything like that. but now i smoke weed, i drink and take hallucinogens. and it does bring the temptation to relapse, and it keeps me involved in the world of drugs. but in the end it is all about will power, i have been clean off heroin for about 2 years, and i started with the softer drugs again a few months ago.

Article by Edmund Tirbutt

If you’ve never loved someone with an addiction problem this article may not make any sense. If you’ve loved someone with an illness for which there is no cure it will. That is because up until now there has been no potentially definitive cure for alcohol addiction. Whilst many have become sober through the traditional routes of AA and rehab, a much greater number have not. There are moments in history when we can change things and make things a better place. We are at that moment in history with alcohol addiction. For those of you out there who love someone who is addicted to alcohol there is now real hope. But things have to change before we can declare victory and before change can happen there needs to be some education about the causes and the effects of alcohol addiction – not just amongst lay people but those in the medical and addiction professions. The first and most important point to make is: we’ve never met an addict who wilfully set out to become addicted. Their addiction is almost always masking a pre-existing mental health disorder which in many cases is acute anxiety which has never been properly diagnosed or treated. Anxiety can have physical affects – panic attacks are a common problem; emotional affects – with feelings of apprehension and dread very common; cognitive affects – fear of suspected dangers like dying and behavioural affects like withdrawing from situations where unpleasant effects of anxiety have been experienced in the past. If you love someone with anxiety they will no doubt look very normal and behave quite normally. But there may be small signs that give you a clue like sweaty palms, anxiety about social situations, disturbed sleep patterns, nail biting and foot tapping.Whilst these are relatively minor external symptoms, the anxiety they feel will not be minor and their anxiety will start to increasingly impinge upon and affect their lives. That explains why when someone with acute anxiety first tastes alcohol they will already be at risk of addiction because the drug will hit their brain and make them feel normal probably for the first time in their lives. You hear that over and over again in AA meetings and rehab in answer to the question why do you drink? Answer: because it makes me feel normal. And so the connection with the brain chemistry is made from that very first drink and someone with acute anxiety who experiences this feeling of euphoria will continue to take alcohol in increasingly large doses and so start the journey into dependency and then full-blown addiction. This will not only spell future disaster for the addict unless they turn it round, it will also lead to broken relationships and devastation within families of addicts as they try to help in vain.

Up until now if you loved an alcoholic the only “treatment” you may have heard about is AA or rehab. In fact many who love an alcohol addict have no real knowledge or information about what to do and may not even understand the options until their loved one eventually ends up needing emergency treatment to help with physical withdrawals or has an accident. So what about the drinker. What have been your best hopes for recovery historically? Alcoholics Anonymous is probably the most famous. It is an international organisation whose primary purpose is to help members stay sober and help others achieve sobriety using the 12 Steps which in summary is a process to help them accept they are powerless over alcohol and that a higher power than themselves (not necessarily God) will help them to achieve this. Interestingly, they avoid discussing the medical nature of alcohol addiction despite the fact that they will almost all be suffering from a primary mental health disorder.AA was founded in 1935 by Bill Wilson and Dr Bob Smith in the US who, as alcoholics, found that by supporting and talking to each other they could maintain their sobriety in a much easier way. Whilst it is an organisation which is credited with helping many alcoholics achieve and maintain sobriety there are high drop-out rates in the first year and relapse rates. It does not suit everyone. Despite this the medical and addiction professions have not moved much further forward with the fundamental diagnosis and treatment of alcohol addiction. Go to the most expensive rehab centres in the world and their methods will almost always certainly be based around the 12 Step Programme developed by the members of AA and with cognitive and other counselling services and attendance at AA will be the recommended post-care treatment. These approaches have worked for some and are to be applauded but many of us have tried and paid a lot of money to find sobriety in this way and that is why new treatments such as those described in our book are exciting and particularly the discovery by French-American cardiologist Prof Ameisen – who became addicted to alcohol when self-medicating his own acute alcohol addiction – that a drug commonly prescribed for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) can cure alcohol addiction – if taken in the right way and to the right dose – by reducing the cravings and eventually making the patient indifferent to alcohol. As it is also a muscle relaxant it also helps to treat the underlying cause of the addiction which is in many cases acute anxiety.Whilst the science behind this is not yet completely understood what we do know is that it is already having spectacular results. The problem here in the UK is that baclofen whilst available on prescription for MS is not yet available to alcohol addicts and, indeed, many of the medical trials that have been set up or are being set up are only going to use doses which so far have proved ineffectual in treating addiction. We are calling on the Government and the medical establishment to take the opportunity to change history and the future for many addicts and the families who love them. It feels to me like the treatments we use for addiction today are medieval. We must understand and treat the route cause of the mental health problems that cause addition and help those who are already addicted. Baclofen needs to have proper trials in the UK and be made available on prescription. If a new cheap, safe and widely available (these are the key characteristics of Baclofen) cancer drug had just been discovered and the Government and medical professions were taking time to do medical trials and not using the dose levels which research suggests are needed to treat the problem there would be a public outcry. That is why we are calling for change. Alcohol addiction happens to people who are already ill with mental health disorders such as acute anxiety and that is why they deserve and need as much help as someone terminal cancer or other life threatening diseases. We must move this treatment on, we must save lives on the grounds of basic humanity.

Albeit holistic rehabilitation is a very good option for addiction recovery for both alcohol and drugs, it will only become effective when the person acknowledges his problem with addiction and is willing to undergo professional treatment. Otherwise, any efforts from family members or friends to rehabilitate the person will only end up as a futile quest. Hence, the road to holistic recovery is for the person to accept treatment at his own will and not through force coercion. Once the alcohol and drugs are taken away, the holistic type of rehab will ensure the person understands how to positively deal with the outbreak of emotional upheaval during the treatment as well as induce alternative therapies such as acupuncture, tai-chi, yoga, and light-sound neurotherapy to work on regaining equilibrium for body, mind and spirit. With the holistic rehabilitation approach, the use of a variety of therapies will fully cover all the required treatments of the body, emotions, thoughts and spirit. Addiction recovery from alcohol and drugs are not only just a physical problem that is resolved with body detoxification, but more like an emotional and spiritual injury that usually leaves a long-lasting scar. Hence, the various holistic treatments can still be utilized to sustain the patients long after they leave the rehabilitation center, to fully heal their emotional scars and let them move on with their lives with a clean slate.

Teen addiction is also best treated with Holistic approach as it focuses on changing the thought processes in the person’s head. With the use of various mental stimuli in holistic rehabilitation, such as yoga and meditation, it will help clear the hubbub in the person’s head and calm his thoughts, whilst at the same time relieving him from anxieties, stress and pressures. Once the person achieves a healthy body and mind, the spirit is also restored to complete the transformation of the “whole being”, which is the main concept of holistic healing – the achievement of the ultimate balance or symmetry of body, mind and spirit.

If you, or a loved one, are in need of treatment for any types of addiction, one of the best facilities that you can count on is The Beachcomber in Delray Beach, Florida is a holistic rehabilitation center that specializes on addiction recovery using various therapies to restore complete balance of the body, mind and spirit. The Beachcomber programs will lead to new awakenings which include step-by-step and stage-by-stage restoration of values and appreciation for living, which is the whole essence of holistic healing. Call or visit us today and take that first step to the road of recovery.

Article by Aboveitall Treatment

One of the most interesting facts about drug addiction is that it is not just only related with the physical health of the addicted but also creates a wide range of problems as well. It is an easily notable fact that whenever any person is found to be addicted to drugs it automatically brings in several problems to his family and the society as a whole. Besides that other than the physical problems of the addicted there occur several psychological problems as well. In fact the point is that in the present day context it is a shameful fact that there are lots of people who get addicted to some kind of drugs or the other very often. Other than that it has also often been noticed that several people gets addicted to this problem of drug addiction without even having the slightest clue of the danger they are in.

To elaborate this statement with and example the easiest answer is the problem of prescription drug addiction. The point is that in most cases where people are found to be getting addicted to the problem of prescription drug addiction it is a common fact that people who use medicines with the proper prescription of their doctor often gets addicted to using these drugs and at a certain stage it develops into their addiction problem. Thereby the fact is that in most cases of prescription drug addiction people gets addicted to these drugs without even been aware of the dangerous pit they are falling into.

The point to be noted in this respect is that most drugs serve some good purpose some way or the other in their initial stage. Say for example the problem of alcohol addiction. The point being that the use of alcohol is a common fact through the globe. The intoxicating effect of alcohol is rather useful in different places as well. In colder countries it helps a lot to keep yourself warm and comfortable. But when you cross the limits it is certain you will need to bear the burden of drug addiction. Similar to that there are lots of life saving drugs which if taken in excess or if being used without proper concern of the doctor can easily lead to the addiction of the drug.

However, it is essential to note in this respect is that to get the best treatment for the addiction problem the best thing to be done is to seek the aid of an affordable rehab center. In this respect the choice plays a very crucial role for the better drug addiction detox for the patients. It should always be kept in mind that the choice of the rehab center matters the most in respect of the proper treatment of the addiction patients. Besides that it should also be kept in mind that if there is any mistake in making the proper choice of the rehab center it can not only lead to the failure at drug addiction detox but also can create a good deal of problems in the life of the addicted. The fact is that in certain cases there can also be problems like depression and can also develop suicidal tendency in the person. Therefore, all these things must always be kept in mind while making the choice of the rehab center.

Article by Kshitiz Mahajan

A drug rehab clinic can be the ideal place to detox from the unhealthy lifestyle. There are many programs around the country that can be beneficial. In most cases, they will treat all substance abuse including alcohol addiction recovery, drug abuse, teen drug addiction, prescription drug rehab and even tobacco recovery. But, further investigation is necessary. One important consideration here is for those teens in need of help. Teen drug addiction is much different than the drug addiction of an adult and should be handled not alongside an adult but in a separate facility.

Teen rehab clinics can be just the thing that can put your teenage child on the right track. Teenagers like to escape from these facilities sometimes; if your child seems to be this type of person then you may need to consider the teen rehab retreats available throughout the country. These retreats are usually located on wide open land with no other buildings or activities for miles and miles. This kind of environment will discourage any thoughts of escape.

A summer day camp focuses on offering the children the best sort of learning experiences in the environment of enjoyment. The project-based classes and outdoor activities like swimming activity, archery, high ropes, boating, fishing, crafts, arts etc. motivate campers to develop their potentiality, to build competence and confidence in them.

A Christian clinical treatment center is ideal if your teen has a medical condition in addition to their drug and/or alcohol problem. The residents undergo a full-on detoxification program and having a medical condition means on-call medical staff are essential. Religious based facilities call on Christian teaching as the core of their program using prayer and scripture to help the residents overcome their addiction. Putting your trust in Jesus has certainly worked for some troubled teens.

Christian residential treatment centers consists various types of facilities such as therapeutic boarding schools, boot camps, behavior modification programs, positive peer culture programs and mental health facilities. A therapeutic boarding school usually employs therapists on a full time or ongoing basis. Students with serious emotional problems are well suited to this type of school. If a stressful situation arises, there is a staff member trained in handling such matters who is available for twenty for hours.

Christian education can give better opportunity for making happy life to the children. Christian boarding schools can handle special needs of difficult teens who are in danger of going down the wrong path. For parents who want to raise their children in their faith and help them, they turn their life around, finding a good Christian boarding school is very important.

There are many reasons exist for youngsters to go to teens summer camps of one type or another. Even while religious beliefs are one of the main points of learning, there are opportunities for additional lessons as well. For a number of children, this can be the first experience they will have away from home. They will learn to be more independent and will be able to manage on their own with the guidance of other responsible adults and mentors.

I’m in recovery from alcohol addiction and my husband threatened to leave if I drank. I’m on meds to straighten my brain chemistry out, see a psychiatrist, go to AA, have a sponsor and in group therapy etc. Recently I found Kratom online and bought some. I have been sober for 8 months. I’m going to try it this weekend. Will my husband be able to tell if I’m high on Kratom? I don’t know how potent it is and don’t want him to know. Thanks.

Article by Larry Dawson

I would like to preface this article by saying alcohol is a drug and the way to Addiction Recovery is the same for either drugs or alcohol. Therefore, I may use the terms “alcoholism” or “addiction” interchangeably, but in the end the road to recovery is based on the same simple principles. If there is anything that is crucial for an addict seeking recovery, it is 12 step meetings. Here is something which will not scare off a person struggling with a drinking habit. In the company of like-minded people who are ready to share their experience strength and hope, addicts participate in such a simple yet effective way to combat addiction: one addict helping another.

12 step programs have a life changing effect on people’s lives. You will see people come to these programs in the worst of shapes. Often you will see them look broken and weak in spirit when they stagger in for the first time. But the transformation that occurs in the same people after they have attended only a few of these meetings is sometimes nothing short of miraculous. You will see the same people looking far more hopeful and in charge of their lives. Gone will be the feelings of self-pity and uselessness. Instead you will notice the beginning of hope and resolve on their part. Just listening to the stories of former addicts, as well as those on their way out of the addiction is an enormous source of inspiration and motivation to these people. They see their situations and their lives reflected in what the speakers say at these meetings, often mustering up the courage to turn up for a first 12 step meeting. This is the first major step in the right direction.

There are two types of meetings: open and closed. Anyone can attend open meetings, including people in the health sector, family members, or anyone interested in learning more about addiction recovery via 12 step programs. Open meetings are typically beginner meetings that have at least one speaker that tells his or her’s story and how they recovered from their addiction. Closed meetings are reserved for addicts or people with a desire to stop using or drinking. Closed meetings also may have a speaker but have more specific meeting styles such as big book meetings, where there is discussion about a part of the basic text of a particular fellowship, or step meetings, in which a step is discussed every week. This information is based on the knowledge I have about meetings in my area. Meeting styles vary widely in different countries or even different states, but thankfully, the goal is always the same – to assist in one’s addiction recovery. To find a meeting, call your region’s intergroup office or search online.

If you are suffering from an alcohol addiction, you are not alone. Alcoholism is a word that sometimes has negative social connotations, and just because a person drinks alcohol does not mean that they are an alcoholic. The amount of alcohol consumed varies greatly from person to person that develops alcoholism, and is also affected by genetic predisposition, and social and emotional health. Alcohol by definition is a disease that results from a persistent use of alcohol despite negative personal, emotional, financial, and professional consequences. Heavy alcohol use accompanied by dependence and symptoms of withdrawal, and the inability to recognize that every bad thing has been related to an alcohol addiction. The sometimes uncontrollable urge to drink leads to constant preoccupation with the drug. Also leads to arrests for drunk driving and extra expenses for a good dui lawyer

According to numerous online sources, the most common substance of abuse resulting in dependence in patients presenting for treatment is alcohol. Overcoming an addiction to anything can be difficult, but there is help and hope available to people who want to stop drinking and get their lives back on track. The mind is more powerful than any drug, and to discover this is to truly be on the road to recovery. Addicts have to make a conscious choice to get and stay sober, one day at a time, and learn how to control the cravings. It’s not something that can be done alone, which is why there are treatment facilities all over the country, most of which are privately owned substance abuse recovery centers. The philosophy of AA or Alcoholics Anonymous has proven to be helpful to many alcoholics in their fight against alcohol addiction, and the program is often used as an adjunct treatment with other therapies, such as in an inpatient setting. AA also encourages communication with a sponsor to help guide the addict through the recovery process, and provide support while working through the program.

Learn more about effects of alcohol as well as alcohol facts and the truth about alcohol addiction and drunk driving. Some online literature discusses at length what drives alcohol addiction, detailing the effects of alcohol and describes some of the research being done to correct drinking problems. Alcohol continues to be the most greatly abused substance despite the wide-spread negative consequences. Even after public outbursts, divorce, loss of employment, revocation of driving privileges, and loss of life and limb, alcoholics continue to drink because it is so highly addicted in people who are predisposed to this disease. If you or someone you know is giving part of their life to alcohol, encourage them to get help. It may take a series of bad events to get the point across, and for many alcoholics, this is what it takes to see their illness in a different light.

Question by : Should I continue dating someone with a drug and alcohol addiction?
So I’ve been dating someone who admits to having an addiction to drugs and alcohol. She used to do heavy drugs, but only smokes weed now. However, that is every day, multiple times a day. She has lost a good job because of this in the past, but still smokes. She used to go to AA and admits to an alcohol problem also, but she still drinks. She got a DUI a year ago and has a breathalyzer in the vehicle, but still attempts to drink and drive at times. She’s almost 30 and still lives with her parents (always has). She has mentioned she has no real interest in getting back into recovery or stopping her behaviors. Actually, I think she’s in complete denial. She freely admits to being addicted, but seems to think that her behaviors don’t impact her life negatively in any way.

It’s just hard because, foolishly I will admit, I decided to give the relationship a shot, even when I knew of these issues very early. We get along well and have fun together, and we have developed strong feelings for each other since we’ve been dating (for about 3 months now). She treats me fairly well, but is admittedly a bit selfish at times which has resulted in a few issues and concerns on my end. She also has a history of cheating and has even told me once (when drunk) that she could never say 100% that she would never cheat again, that “sometimes situations arise” and that “we’re all human”. This is in contradiction to what she says when sober – that she would never cheat again. More and more I’m also seeing the effects of her lifestyle such as her mood swings based on whether she has or has not either drank or smoked.

I knew this probably wasn’t a good match when I met her, but didn’t really listen to my gut. I’ve been thinking I should end this relationship now, before we get even more attached. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Best answer:

Answer by Barb Outhere
You just have to ask yourself “Would I want this in my life, long term?” because she’s already said that SHE has no intention of changing.
She admits to addiction, but doesn’t want help.
She denies the ways it affects her life, even though she lost her job because of it, and has a monitior fitted to her car.
She changes how she acts when drinking or high, but won’t stop.
She admits to cheating, and doesn’t know if she will again.
You admit “…this probably wasn’t a good match when I met her, but didn’t really listen to my gut…” and “…She treats me fairly well, but is admittedly a bit selfish at times which has resulted in a few issues and concerns on my end…”
Don’t assume she will change. Is this what you want for yourself long term? That is what you have to decide. If not, don’t mess about, end it.

Kentucky rehabs provide very effective treatment program for each and every teen in the rehab. Drug rehabs have specialized team of licensed counselors, psychiatrists, psychologists and interventionists to treat addicted teens. There are some professionals in rehabs that can able to analyze teens by just talking to them. Each suggested treatment program depends upon the severity and nature of teens drug addiction. Some of the alcohol addiction treatment centers offer medication programs and other holistic approaches to cure addiction in teens.

Addiction of alcohol is a serious problem in society for people all over the world. Each and every year people try drugs and become addicted. The problem afflicts the younger people the most. The majority of people becoming addicted to drugs like Heroin, Cocaine and Methamphetamine are Teens and young adults. Drug use in teens usually starts with smoking pot or cigarettes. This then can lead to harder drugs as the years go by. The majority of teens that start using drugs and that become addicted come from bad homes and were usually subjected to great adversity and or abuse from an early age.

This is when alcohol abuse comes in. Teenagers will want to try such substances in their life to see what they’re missing out on because they will want to be like their friends or get a break from internal problems. When they use alcohol for the first time, they will probably think they’re sitting in paradise and then may use it again because it gives them that breeze of fresh air for moments of self-forgetfulness.

If an addiction does occur, the alcohol addictions then cause even more problems. It can include having a falling out with old friends because they do not believe in drugs or alcohol, or falling out with family because of mood swings and carelessness. At school it can grow into an issue due to disruptive behavior and failing of grades in classes. Then adolescent drug addiction problems can continue as a way to cope with things falling apart more.

Drug abuse by teenagers is very common, which can lead to disastrous consequences in the future. A large proportion of deaths in people between 15 and 24 are reportedly connected in some way or the other to alcohol abuse. Such abuse also leads to violent criminal acts, such as assault, murder or rape. Some young people also take drugs to overcome depression and anxiety. Teen drug rehabs centers in Kentucky come out with a specialized drug addiction recovery plan after a series of counseling sessions with teens and their parents. These teen drug rehabs provide experienced specialists and trained staff throughout the treatments. Most of the drug recovery centers in Kentucky offer twelve step and detoxification recovery programs to make teens come out addictions.

Teens are the most explosive people in the world. They go up in flames the moment they find something that perks their interest and they do it without hesitation or thinking about the upshot of their actions. alcohol are the main cause for school dropout and delinquency in teens which is why parents should be able to give the right amount of education for their teens and stir them away from drugs.

An alcohol addiction treatment program consists of three general alcoholism treatment option steps. These three steps are intervention, detoxification and rehabitation.

Many persons with a drinking problem do not see or acknowledge that they have a problem with alcohol abuse. Intervention used in an alcohol addiction treatment program used to be more confrontational since problem drinkers would be confronted about their excessive drinking and threatened with consequences if they did not begin treatment.

Today, the more effective alcoholism treatment option consists of caring and understanding counseling and intervention. Studies have found that more people begin an alcohol addiction treatment program when family members or employers are honest with them and try to help the drinker see that alcohol abuse is adversely affecting their health and lives in many ways.

Family or friends may need to help start the process of drinking problem recognition by reading relevant books on the subject to become better informed, by contacting their healthcare professional or by locating the nearest Alcoholics Anonymous or similar group. An alcohol addiction treatment program intervention is a structured process where a group of family members, friends or co-workers get together in a caring way to communicate their concerns about a problem drinker’s behavior. Done correctly, intervention has the objective of moving the person (and those who are part of the problem drinker’s life) out of crisis mode and into addressing the addiction. Without the problem drinker recognizing and acknowledging that he or she has a drinking problem, there can be no effective and lasting alcoholism treatment option. Here are the three main alcohol addiction treatment program steps:1. Intervention – this is the initial alcoholism treatment option whereby the drinking problem is recognized and acknowledged by the drinker and perhaps family members or employer as well. Once the alcohol problem is recognized, alcohol consumption is stopped for those persons that are alcohol dependent. If the person is a problem drinker, moderate drinking may be successful. Many alcoholics at first will not acknowledge that their drinking is out of control, and moderation can often be a successful way to deal with the drinking problem. If moderation works, the drinking problem is solved. If it doesn’t work, then the person is usually ready to try abstinence. Because alcoholism affects the people closely related to the problem drinker, education and treatment for family members through counseling is often necessary.2. Detoxification – this phase of an alcohol addiction treatment program usually takes from 4 to 7 days. The more alcohol a person has been drinking each day, the higher the likelihood the person will develop alcohol withdrawal symptoms when they stop drinking.Alcohol withdrawal symptoms can range from annoying and uncomfortable to serious and even life-threatening. Withdrawal symptoms generally begin within 12 hours of the last alcohol consumption and will be the maximum in two or three days. The person may need to stay at the hospital for medical observation.

In a medically supervised environment, withdrawal from alcohol can be done safely, and medications can be used as needed to relieve withdrawal symptoms. Other medical problems that may exist increase the likelihood of developing severe withdrawal symptoms. For example, blood clotting and liver problems are often found in heavy drinkers, and serious symptoms such as convulsions, fever or delirium tremens can develop.3. Rehabilitation – recovery from alcoholism should include support for the problem drinker once the detoxification alcoholism treatment option phase is completed to help maintain alcohol abstinence. This important recovery support will likely include counseling, nursing and medical care within these kinds of programs. Alcoholism disease education and alcohol effects on the body should be part of this alcoholism treatment option and rehab. An alcohol addiction treatment program can be an inpatient or outpatient program. Medications are sometimes prescribed in alcoholism treatment to help prevent relapses. Naltrexone will reduce the desire for alcohol. Antabuse is another drug that is used in alcoholism treatment. It functions by producing unpleasant side effects if any alcohol is consumed within fourteen days after the drug is taken. Counseling or support groups are often needed on a long-term basis to help maintain sobriety.Alcoholism and alcohol abuse can become life-threatening if not treated. It is never too late to begin the process of intervention, detoxification and rehabilitation to help a problem drinker regain control of their health and their lives. If you’d like to see what alcoholism treatment option facilities exist, you can search online for a USA alcohol abuse treatment center that’s located near you. If recovery from alcohol becomes a priority in your life or the life of someone you care about, seek an alcohol addiction treatment program that can provide the caring and professional alcoholism treatment that the problem drinker truly deserves.Copyright 2006 InfoSearch Publishing

Article by Alcoholism Treatment Centre, Alcoholic Rehab Clinic

Alcohol starts with a pint and has the potential to become a vice which can destroy one’s life. There’s an old Chinese saying that goes something like ‘first the man takes a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes the man’!

Alcohol can destroy the life of the alcoholic and also their family and friends. The best way to curb the habit is to have the alcoholic admitted to an alcohol rehab centre. Alcohol rehab – how to help your alcohol addicted loved one to recover from addiction is an article aimed at guiding family and friends fo alcoholics towards a place of long term recovery.

Most alcoholics are in denial – this psychological feature of the illness prevents them from seeing the severity and nature of the negative consequences that their drinking causes and may make them unwilling to join an alcohol rehab. It’s important to remember that most alcoholics are forced into rehab and that this has no bearing on whether treatment will be successful or not, the key is to just get them admitted to a quality alcoholism centre.

When alcoholics are forced to go to rehab you can expect them to engage in all sorts of manipulative behaviour in an attempt to not be admitted. They might even try to exert control over their drinking and stop on their own for a short period. Often when alcoholics do this they’re saying to themselves and the world ‘look, I can stop drinking on my own, obviously I don’t’ have an alcohol problem and there’s not need to go to rehab’.

If they can stop on their own, and most importantly STAY STOPPED – then perhaps they’re right. Unfortunately if they alcoholics, in time, they’ll be back to drinking and all the negative results of that drinking will manifest themselves all over again.

Families of alcoholics need to be very careful in handling alcoholics displaying such behaviour. Such individuals start drinking secretly to avoid detection by their families. They will hide the alcohol in cars, garages, drawers, in study table desks and other hard to detect places, even the cistern of the toilet!

Often alcohol addicts feel very guilty and ashamed about their drinking and to overcome it drink even more. Families of such individuals need to identify the tell tale signs and symptoms of alcoholism. A lot of information on the behaviour patterns of alcohol addicts is available on the net. There are some very good websites which provide a list of good alcohol rehab centres.

These sites will help you to distinguish the different symptoms of alcoholism and provide tips on how to curb the habit if in its early stages, or arrange admission to an alcohol rehab if a full blown addiction is in place. Thus the family of such individuals plays an important role in providing access to alcohol rehab for the addicted.

Families often try in vain for many years to cajole, counsel, manipulate and convince the alcoholic to stop drinking or to look at the advantages of joining an alcohol rehab centre. Most times when all else fails it’s up to the family to force the patient into treatment.

For those who are pondering over questions around alcohol rehab and how to help your alcohol addicted loved one to recover we hope this article has shed some light about alcoholism treatment and the crucial role that families play in either enabling the alcoholic to continue drinking or insisting that they get help.

Generally the period of time spent in an alcohol rehab is between 4 weeks and three months. There are shorter programs also available and alcohol rehabs usually take in people of different ages starting from eighteen years old.

Alcohol rehabilitation is split into several phases. Primary Care where detoxification takes place and the peculiar mental twist that enables alcoholics to return to drinking despite the negative consequences is addressed. Secondary Care where underlying emotional issues and dual-diagnosis problems can be more effectively addressed and Tertiary Care where alcoholics can live in a sober environment whilst still receiving slight support.

The time period of the rehab program is usually dependent upon factors like alcohol dependency, psychiatric history and other variables which are worked out by the rehab staff after discussions with patients and their family. The Primary program which usually lasts between 28 and 42 days is known to be one of the most successful rehab programs. The program consists of educational lectures, one on one (individual) addictions counselling, group therapy, yoga etc. These programs create a sense of self awareness, honesty and emotional clarity.

Alcohol detoxification is a tough program as it takes a lot of expertise on the part of the rehab staff to curb the alcohol consuming habit of the addict. Discontinuation of alcohol has severe implications which include heavy sweating, insomnia, vomiting, nausea, hallucinations and other problems. Depending on the severity of the situation and ability of the patient to cope up with the recovery process the duration of the rehab varies. A lot more information on the working of the alcohol rehab as well as the financial variables involved can be found in websites dedicated to alcoholism rehabilitation.

So you’ve got a drur or alcohol addiction and you are now admitting it to oneself. That could be a excellent start – all your pals and family are probably relieved! As the 12-stepper’s say, admitting you have a problem ( and getting out of denial ) is step one toward recovery. If you’re not able to admit that you have a issue with drinking too much, you aren’t going to be able to find a solution and it is truly as easy as that. The next step is going to be for you to find an acceptable drug or alcohol obsession treatment center that you can go to, so you can stop for good. At a drug and alcohol rebah facility, you may have access to information and executives who will stand by your side as you go through alcohol cleanse and get sober. They will help you build new habits and associations so you can stay clean after you dry out and return to life on the’outside.’ It is often the process of actually finding a drug or alcohol addiction recovery center that you like which is one of the largest steps in the act. Once you do, you may commit to moving forward and be on the trail to recovery. You want to discover a medically-sound treatment that may make you snug and help you in staying the course.
What Kind Of Substance Abuse Does The Treatment Center Specialize In? Drugs, Alcohol, or Both?
One of the first things that you will need to be sure of when trying to find a drug addiction treatment center is that the rehab center concentrates on treating the type of drug that you are addicted to. <h2How Long Will You Be In Treatment?
Also when trying to find the right alcohol or drug addiction treatment center, you need to consider what length of treatment you are going to need to go in for. If you’re not sure, you can talk to a drug advisor who will be ready to figure this out for you. This is also critical because there are various treatment centers offering different lengths of time for care. Many of us go for a week ( it’s like a vacation from work, at least ) and it isn’t conspicuous to co-workers that they’ve been in treatment. They can just say they were on vacation. There are the short term rehab centers that are available which are typically ones that you would live at just for a short term and bear one or two different treatments, and then there are the long run centers which are typically for major drug addicts who have been struggling obsession for most of their life, and who are going to want a longer stay in order to get clean and get over the withdrawal problems. You can also get some in-home care treatment centers that let you stay in the pleasure of your own house. The bigger test comes after you are back out on your own and have to avoid falling into the same habit patterns you were in ( drinking and doing drugs ) before you went in for treatment. Enlist the aid of family and friends so you can avoid relapsing and make your new, more healthy way of living an abiding part of your life!

I can’t for the life of me find any poems or songs like this, though I’m sure they’re out there somewhere! So if you guys could help me out, I would be forever grateful!

The Needle and the Damage Done – Neil Young
One of the most famous anti-heroin songs ever, “The Needle and the Damage Done” was directed at original Crazy Horse guitarist, Danny Whitten, who overdosed at the age of 29 several months after the song’s release. Young later remarked about the song: “I am not a preacher, but drugs killed a lot of great men.” The song appears on Harvest, which was the best-selling album of 1972. “I’ve seen the needle and the damage done/A little part of it in everyone/But every junkie’s like a settin’ sun . . .”

at the rate he was going. And he was going
somehow. He quit drinking! And the rest?
After that it was all gravy, every minute
of it…

Addiction recovery begins with someone who is addicted to a certain substance, such as alcohol, recognizing the fact that they are addicted and then seeking help through alcohol rehabs. This is the first and very crucial step towards treating someone with an addiction and should be taken by the person who is in the throes of the addiction. No one can stop another person from drinking or getting serious about addiction recovery. Generally speaking, a person usually hits rock bottom before they seek out alcohol rehabs and get the help that they need.

Alcohol rehabs work first to eliminate the need for the body for alcohol. Because alcohol is a drug that not only creates a psychological dependency but also a physical dependency, the physical dependency must first be conquered in order for the addiction recovery to get started. Alcohol rehabs usually concentrate first on ridding the body from the physical dependency on alcohol so that the addiction recovery can then take place. This is only one step towards successful addiction recovery. After the physical dependency is gone from the body, the person must then concentrate on the psychological components that made them addicted to alcohol in the first place.

There can be a host of psychological components that cause someone to be addicted to any type of drug. These stem from problems that a person may have in childhood as well as adulthood that they numb by using certain substances, such as alcohol. Addiction recovery, in order to be successful, must address these problems so that the addict can get the monkey off their back and begin to lead a life that is free from addiction.

If a person is committed to addiction recovery, their prognosis for a full recovery is excellent. Not only are there alcohol rehabs out there to help them get rid of the physical dependency on alcohol, but these same alcohol rehabs will also give them the tools that they need to re learn their behavior patterns so that they do not fall into the same trap in the future. Most people who want to seek help when it comes to addiction recovery will get the help that they need through the tools that are offered at alcohol rehabs. These tools include both emotional support as well as learning tips that cn help them avoid drinking in the future.

Those who are serious about addiction recovery and want to live lives that are sober can get the help that they need at alcohol rehabs. Although loved ones can encourage alcohol rehabs as a form of addiction recovery to the addict, it is ultimately down to the person who is addicted to alcohol or any other substance to eventually help themselves. They can do this with the support that they receive at alcohol rehabs as well as learn from their past behavior. Addiction recovery is a process that can take a long period of time and in which a person is always learning, but can prove to be very successful once someone is committed to seeking help for their addiction.

Here one way to look at phases of recovery, milestones to mark your progress. Addiction recovery can be thought of as moving through these five phases:

1. Admission of a problem

This is the key starting point. If there is no addiction problem then there certainly is no need for a solution to addiction. There is a certain logic to that. What would prevent someone from admitting they have an addiction problem? Well, how about memory distortion caused by their chemical dependency. There is a jazzy phrase called ‘euphoric recall’ which is the tendency to only remember the good times and positive experiences of using. That is half of the equation, at the same time we are suppressing or refusing to remember the far more numerous times where indulging in the addiction has caused pain and embarrassment. Another block to admitting the problem is our distorted defense mechanisms, such as minimizing, rationalizing and good old fashioned denial. If we get to the point that we acknowledge there is a problem and want to do something about it now, we can move on to the next phase of recovery which is compliance.

2. Compliance

What is meant by compliance here is going along with the most important seeing and agreeing to the concept of abstinence. This early phase of recovery usually involves little emotional insight into the whys of the addiction; the concentration is simply on ‘don’t do it? on a daily basis. Once we accept compliance as a necessary part of recovery, we can move toward the whys and wherefores. But it is not unusual to pass through the next phase of recovery which is defiance.

3. Defiance

Defiance can rear its head in several ways the most damaging is in the form of believing that the terms of addiction don’t apply to me. Picking and choosing what is to be done and not. done An example might be rejection of continuing care believing that is for others not me, or I have been ‘good’ for awhile I deserve to use again now that I proved I can quit. Another example of defiance can be becoming engaged in anger toward others who do not have your affliction or getting on the pity pot with the ‘poor me’s’. Defiance and anger can also be a block toward connecting and resolving with your emotions and feelings that underlie the blanketing emotion of anger.

4. Acceptance

One of my favorite philosophers was Popeye The Sailor Man, he used to say “I y’am what I y’am”. However you come to accept your addiction whether you believe it is a no fault illness, or you simple got dealt a bad hand in life, accepting your addiction allows you to move out of the problem and into the solution. People who are accepting are generally less defensive and have a greater sense of emotional and personal identity. Acceptance is the first step toward beginning to trust yourself and others, and open the possibilities of self-evaluation.

5. Surrender

We are not talking about submission but rather surrender they are very different. Submission is a temporary yielding, it tends to leave the escape hatch of returning to the addiction open. There is an implication of force being used or submitting against your will. Surrender can be thought of as wholehearted acceptance and compliance. It is a voluntary action and does not mean being defeated as does submission, but rather a conscious decision not to participate. A boxer who has been knocked out has submitted to the power of his opponent. A boxer who has retired and does not climb in the ring any more has surrendered to the idea that he no longer chooses to fight.

In summing up the points made above we can say that progress in addiction recovery can be made by admitting there is a problem and seeing the need for change. We move through negativity and emotional blocks to our recovery to arrive at a point of acceptance. Our acceptance of the need to change eventually moves through an attitude of being defeated to voluntarily seeking a better life. Stringing these concepts together can be viewed as movement through the phases of recovery.

A very large percentage of the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors in our country are also Recovering Addicts. This especially pertains to those certified by agencies created specifically to improve the qualifications of those working in a previously hugely unregulated field. This certification became necessary, as so many Addicts inspired by the 12 Step Concept, want to “give back” what they have acquired that changed their lives for the better, and in many cases “saved their life”!

I can only speak for myself, but approaching 10 years as a counselor, I believe myself to to represent the profile of very many counselors. I definitely have had issues that relate back to childhood personality problems like, shyness, insecurity, and fear. As a child I was very small. I began school, 1st grade, at only 5 years old, in rural Missouri.

My family relocated from there to California whan I was eight. When I graduated from 8th grade I was 4’8″ tall and weighed a mere 78 pounds. I had already spent 2 years in over-achievement, with a great degree of success. In 8th grade I was a starting line member in every sport. A benefit that came with that success, at that time, was that girls approached me, in spite of the fact that I was still so lacking in self-confidence that I could not approach them. So, at 12 years old, in 8th grade I won a popularity test at the annual Carnival and was crowned King of the Carnival. This was a very small rural school, though. My problems really surfaced in the next, or 1st year of High School. I was cut from every sport I entered in my Freshman year. This was a major blow to my somewhat bloated ego. I did still maintain a dominant role in my neighborhood, though. But school was important… very important to me as it is to all children. Thus I began my first associations with an alternative demographic and began drinking and smoking pot as regularly as an average 12 or 13 year old could… mostly Saturday nights. I also started hanging out with people 3 or 4 years old than I was. This period, I feel, set the trend for my life assuming the outcast or outlaw persona! Between my freshman and sophomore years I grew from 5’1″ to 5’8″ and shot up to 145 pounds, which left me sort of with 2 left feet and hands. It was a disappointing time and I began to drink and smoke pot more, usually staying under-the-influence all weekend.

This is in the 1960′s and a lot of social anxiety was going on with the civil rights movement many other societal tensions. The “underground” was forming and I was right there in the middle of it as much as someone my age could be. Remember, I had a tendency to associate with people older than me. My junior year in high school started with a move to a high school that just opened that year. I tried to make it a fresh start. I went to class everyday, which I had not been doing recently. My grades improved and at 5’9″ and 160 pounds I had regained my agility and made the Varsity squad of the wrestling team. Somehow I found the strength to refrain from drinking and smoking pot and cigarettes. I now had two lives that I kept unbelievably well separated from one and other (honing my skills of deceit)! I had my “Jock” friends, and I had my “Hippie” friends. After wrestling season ended, the hippies gradually became my “comfort zone”. As was the course all through high school, I was not very popular with the girls, especially those expected to be in the company of an athlete. This was a real problem that I suppressed and eventually came to accept, on the surface, as not very important, though my libido told me differently. My senior year I went out for wrestling and inflated the seriousness of a minor injury so I could quit. Luckily, my academic performance had so improved that I only had to attend classes for half of the day. Sadly, it gave me more time to pursue my alternative lifestyle choice! I was using drugs more frequently than ever and began involvement in politics, even attending demonstrations against the war in Vietnam, that were in their fledgling state, but would soon dominate the National stage. I graduated from High School at 17 without a clue regarding my future.

In a matter of months the “Draft” would resolve that issue. I knew that my number would come up soon because I would be 18 soon, and everyone in my uncommitted status of life got drafted shortly after turning 18. So, shortly before my eighteenth birthday I went to the Navy recruiter, to avoid the Army Infantry. This was also truly an attempt to change my future as I was certainly headed for drug addiction, already a serious drug abuser, and full-well knew it! Wrong!!! Wrong decision!!! Join the Navy… see the World! Guess what? That big old World out there had better, easier to get, drugs than I ever could have imagined.

San Diego may very well have been the drug capital of California at that time, rivaled only by maybe, San Francisco. Of course I couldn’t use in Boot Camp; the first four months in the service. But, I stayed in San Diego, in schools, training in electricity and electronics and radio communications. The training schedule was arduous, but I found my first true love as a result… Amphetamines!!! This is an extremely addictive drug and you build tolerance to it rapidly. Starting with about 10 “Bennies” a week, I eventually found myself taking up to 100 per day. I had made a connection across the border in Tijuana and became a drug dealer to help support my enormous habit. In this precarious position, I was headed for an assignment in “Top Secret” classified communications at the Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet Headquarters at Pearl Harbor. Again, I would make an attempt to arrest my drug abuse problem, and it wasn’t too difficult for a while.

At the Communications Center, we worked 12 hours on 12 hours off, seven days a week, for the first ten months I was there. Still, I managed to make some minor drug connections at Pearl Harbor. After that first 10 months we were allocated almost a 50% increase in personnel and I found myself with a lot of free time and also moved off base. It was easy to get Navy pay for off base housing because of their fear of “shop talk” in our off hours at Pearl Harbor. Well, folks, Pearl Harbor, as you know, is in Hawaii. I found myself living only blocks from Waikiki Beach. Now, I was able to return to a very familiar scenario; living a dual life, with my Navy friends and my Civilian friends becoming two separate lives. Somehow, I managed my Navy life. There was no drug testing back then, fortunately for me. Or, maybe unfortunately for me, I don’t know for sure. I made civilian connections and begun selling drugs to a dealer at Pearl Harbor that I had used for my own needs, previously. I also went to a lot of rock and roll music concerts, taking LSD, experimenting with Cocaine, and even getting my first taste of Heroin. I started helping the “Draft” resistance keep people out of the service and even worked with a Church that was a sanctuary for “deserters”. This led to a relationship with some local American Civil Liberties Union people, who offered to help me desert to Canada, but I couldn’t go that route. My love for my parents definitely had something to do with that decision, but truthfully, I was just plain old scared to make a move that big and bold and serious. I still had enough sense to see losing a “Dishonorable Discharge” as too high a price to pay for any reason. My family has a long history of service to this country going all the way back to Charles Carroll of Carrollton signing the Declaration of Independence. Anyway, by the Grace of God, I did get an Honorable Discharge, and make it through the whole ordeal of the United States Military. I may not have indicated it, but I was raised on John Wayne and have always had a true love for and pride in my Country. If not, I never would have seen enlisting as a solution to my drug problem. It’s true that the ‘60′s made me question a lot, but I’m tried and true, red, white and blue, at heart.

The biggest blow to my patriotism came as a result of working in Top Secret communications, though. I am a patriot and will not mention any details of my work, to this day. It must suffice to say that I could confirm that the President of the United States was telling the American public lies, period… outright lies!!! This is what led me to the draft resistance, and became a perfect excuse to become a full-blown Drug Addict. I did some other duty in the Navy but it’s mostly irrelevant right now. Let’s just say that I came home to California, disenfranchised, angry, and a regular dumping ground for drugs. I came home using anything and everything in almost every combination conceivable. On top of that, I had lost all faith, and for many years claimed atheism as my chosen belief.

I drew unemployment compensation the first year I was out, growing my hair and trying to be as much of a “hippie” as I possibly could. I did anything that would distance me far from the military! I have to admit though that right at first I screwed up big time and found myself in jail 28 days after leaving the military. I had a succession of drug arrests until my unemployment checks ended and had to go to work. I got my bearings and after living a dual life in the Military, doing it in civilian life became a piece of cake. From 1974 to 1991 I was what some call a “functioning addict”! I had good jobs and learned the trade of pipe welding and became a Union member with my own portable welding truck. Drug testing still wasn’t very prominent. I made well over a million dollars over that period but by the time of my next drug arrest in 1991, I owned no property, lost my welding truck, had two divorces, and had no money in the bank. I had specific addictions to alcohol, cocaine and methamphetamines. The “Meth” was the closer. From 1991 to 1995 I spent about half of my time homeless or in jail. Between 1985 and 1995 I did a lot of things I am ashamed of to this day. Worst of all was deserting my children, choosing drugs and addicted women over them!

In 1995, at 45, with my last trip to jail, I fell completely apart mentally and spiritually, and no longer had the desire to live, but had come to hope that there was a God. In lieu of a 3 year prison term, and incredibly compassionate Judge looked at my Military Service, my deceiving job history, and I think my obviously apparent declining physical condition and sentenced me to just jail time, and coupled it with a sentence to a drug rehabilitation program. That Judge named “Felice” saved my life, surely under the direction of God and by recommendation from the assistant DA. I now like to say the DA, the VA, AA and NA saved me. During that last arrest, I began praying again. When I got that last sentence I had already come to believe in God. About 10 days after becoming incarcerated, on the eve of my father’s (who was in the hospital) birthday), I had a radical religious experience, and my life was changed from that moment on! You can read about that in one of my articles at EzineArticles.com…

I did my jail term. Successfully completed a drug rehabilitation program and the VA Hospital in Fresno, CA. Remained clean as a member of AA and NA. Went back to a full-time job (notice that I did not go directly into training for counseling). Went back to school for office skills. Went back to school at Cal-State University Bakersfield, Drug and Alcohol program and became a Certified Counselor through the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) and have worked as a Counselor since. I was working in the field before, and during my schooling, close to 10 years now. This I believe is a very common scenario of personal history for drug counselors, as I stated at the beginning of this article. My total acceptance of the help provided me in “Treatment” helped to make it successful for me. I must mention the loving caring staff at the VA program, too. I hold one person in the highest regard and that is my personal counselor, Sally Belle, who understood me so well. She gave me the initial inspiration and suggestion to become a Counselor.

I am a certified substance abuse counselor, and recovering addict, in California. I have 12 years clean time and have been a counselor most of that. I have served as a treatment program Director. I have worked going into prisons recruiting inmates for aftercare drug treatment programs. My calling is as a counselor because I love the reward of helping others to find a life, as I have after using drugs for nearly 30 years.

There are various factors which lead to getting a person addicted the various drugs and alcohol. But only one factor leads them to get out of this mess and that crucial factor is the willingness or longing to quitting this addiction and to lead a sober life. Many people do so for their loved ones, many do so for themselves. Whatever the reason be, to face the uneasiness for denying body the pleasure it is used to may cause tremendous pain in body, requires lot of courage and a very strong will power. It needs lot of determination and courage to put your body through the painful experience. Apart from these personal factors, external factors such as expert guidance, well equipped rehab, personal monitoring during recovery, individualistic recovery treatment, following approach during recovery and the most important to reform the thinking pattern of the newly sober to refrain from going back the addiction are the basic and most significant things one should look for while finding a right rehab. Nowadays most of the rehabs follow these guidelines and offer compassionate and sophisticated recovery treatment to their clients.

Right after admitting into a rehab an evaluation process, to measure the intensity of the addiction is carried out. Based on the outcome of these evaluations, the medical experts draft a personalized recovery plan for the addicts. The very fundamental and primary goal of those professionals is to get the toxins out of the body, so that the drugs can be effective in fighting against the cravings and foreign substances. Getting the toxins out of the body is called detoxification. As the name suggest, it detoxifies the body. This term does not limit itself to removal of toxins from human body, but it may also include the withdrawal period, caused due to denying the body the usual substance, to which the body is addicted.

In conventional medicine, detoxification can be achieved by decontamination of poison ingestion and the use of antidotes as well as techniques such as dialysis and (in a very limited number of cases) Chelating therapy. Many alternative medicine practitioners promote various other types of taking the poisonous substances out such as “diet detoxification,” but there is little evidence that such methods have any health benefits. Most of the rehabs follow sophisticated drug detox methods. Alcohol detox gives a proper platform to impart recovery treatment. These methods help in getting the body cleansed and conditions it for a better sustainability.
