		<description>It has proved difficult to produce an all encompassing definition of addiction. This one has however been proposed as an attempt to be inclusive:
Essentially, addiction designates a process whereby a behaviour, that can function both to produce pleasure and to provide escape from internal discomfort, is employed in a pattern characterised by recurrent failure to control the behaviour (powerlessness) and  continuation of the behaviour despite significant negative consequences (unmanageability).</description>
