If you are looking for intervention services in Canada, our big spectrum of experienced counselors is always ready to help you. We provide you with the best potential interventionist to serve you better.

An intervention process follows a planned method of assisting an addict who has opposed to the previous attempts made by people to help him/her get out from drug and alcohol problem. The purpose of intervention is to help an addict realize the fallacy of his/her self-destructive lifestyle that is dependent on substances and how the same is affecting his/her family members and friends too.

The intervention specialist’s job is to identify and train a group of influential people in the addict’s life prior to the intervention. This influential group could be the addict’s family members, friends, colleagues, church members or even old classmates. After the intervention specialist zeroes in on the influential group of people in the addict’s life, he or she creates a plan of action for attaining the goal of having the addict agree to treatment. This awareness training is accomplished during several pre-arranged meetings. A well-executed intervention service is carried by a professional interventionist, who must be a person with proficiency in counseling for drug and alcohol addiction with ample knowledge of intervention.

The approach towards the addicted should be optimistic and made in a supportive way. Though at times there is no guarantee that an intervention will always go according to plan, it should be kept in mind whatever actions have been taken is done for the betterment of the person who is addicted. So one should get over with the hesitation and take help of counseling for drug and alcohol addiction at the earliest to assist the addict. When the addict finally admits his addiction and agrees to take the help of rehabilitation methods, a visit to the treatment center is required so that the addict can be subjected to the treatment process. The friends and family members are a great support in helping the addict get out of this adverse situation.

Addiction intervention is the first and the most crucial step of the whole process. The interventionists require specific training to deal with the addicts in a tactful way and to perform relentlessly under pressure situations. Along with the intervention training, a thorough knowledge about addictions and human psychology & behavior is necessary to be a good interventionist. Counseling for drug and alcohol addiction is not an easy task either and is generally carried out by proficient counselors with good knowledge on human behavior and addiction symptoms. It is important to have faith on the counselors and doctors when you are getting the addict into the rehab center. They are after all, the ones who are going to take care of the addict and guide him out of his terrible situation.

We have carried out many successful interventions through counseling for drug and alcohol addiction. This process gives motivation to the concerned person to come up and face the world in a better way. It engages the troubled person’s intimate friends and family members in a structured way in order to make recovery fast and easy for the addicted.

Drugs and alcohol addiction is a situation that some teens face and most will experiment. The drug addiction treatment facilities are offered for recovery of any kind of alcohol abuse in teens. Public and private sectors are offering various addiction treatment facilities for struggling teenagers, which is very helpful and supportive to recover from addictions. Today, teen drug treatment centers with their qualified team of psychologists, doctors, counselors etc can set things right in a matter of a couple of months. Teen treatment centers with their sensitive approach towards treating every form of problem and addiction has made their aim to see that there is no more depression and panic among teens.

Addiction is one of the biggest problems in the world today. In all its forms, addiction is very harmful not just to the society but as well to the individual health. To resolve the problem of addiction, recovery programs for addicted youth are offered to help people withdraw from their addiction and recover their lives or even make it better. Before the teenagers are admitted into the treatment centers, they are asked to go through an assessment that would determine the level of their addiction and their mental, physical, psychological and physiological needs. After the assessment, they will then have to go through a detoxification process.

If any teenager is trying to recover from a drug addiction and reclaim their life, the most common treatment methods available are usually based on a version of the traditional twelve step model. Highly trained professionals mediate at these counseling programs and teens are assessed and their specific problems are addressed. All types of adolescent problems are dealt with during the twelve step counseling programs. They engage in meaningful conversations with other teens and learn to work with their problems and turn the negative aspects of their lives into positive achievements. They learn to address their unique problems.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a combination of traditional behavioral therapy and cognitive therapy. They are combined into a treatment that is focused on symptom removal. The key to the approach is in its procedure which must be systematic. Behavior therapy programs in Wyoming have been used successfully to treat a variety of disorders including eating disorders, substance abuse, anxiety and personality disorders. As a more radical aggressive treatment, behavioral techniques dealt better with more radical problems. The behavior of the addicted is carefully assessed by using the chain of events that took place before the problematic behavior came up.

There are many parents who prefer to send their addicted children to the Christian rehabilitation centers in Wisconsin for better treatment. The concept that these centers try to bring through in their rehab programs is that one needs to heal the spirit, the mind as well as the body to achieve meaningful rehabilitation of any kind. There is a great deal of teaching of the Scripture to be seen in a Christian drug rehab program, that can help bring in brightness and hope to what might appear to be a hopeless situation. Counselors in these rehabilitation centers have professional skills to offer to help the patients fight the power that an addictive substance has over them.

True inpatient drug rehab centers are facilities where the client lives and goes to treatment in the same place. Clients in a residential inpatient drug rehab program receive more hours of treatment per week than they receive in outpatient programs. And, because they are monitored around the clock, they receive much more personal attention then they do in other settings. Treatment interrupts their usual routine and replaces it with one that will support them in staying clean and sober when they recover. All good treatment centers provide a detailed aftercare plan for their clients upon discharge.

Question by : Are there any online chat rooms for alcohol addiction?
I have social anxiety and so its hard for me to pick up the phone and call a sponsor or something. I have been searching for online chat rooms for alcoholics but have had trouble finding one. I remember back in the day whe “aol” was the popular internet gig and they had tons of chat rooms. Can anyone please direct me to a site or something where I can talk to other alocholics or someone that can help me online?

Best answer:

Answer by hardwood420
Sure, In The Rooms in an online forum for recovering addicts worldwide. When I fist got clean it was an awesome place to connect with people just like me. Alcohol is a drug. Only another addict can understand the insane thoughts and actions we go through. If you told that stuff to a normal person, you might get locked up and they wouldn’t understand anyway. You can chat 24/7, all groups, AA, NA, CA, OA, SA, .. I think there were 8 last time I checked. FRQ me, –> kattmann

Article by William Koester

According to a U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, over 22% of people living in Florida 12 years of age or older have participated in binge drinking (5 or more drinks in a single occasion) on at least 1 day in the past 30 days. What is more alarming is that, although drug use have decreased in recent years, the abuse of alcohol among teenagers is worse than ever. This means that more actions have to be made in order to avoid alcohol addiction, particularly among youths. In only 6 to 18 months of drinking, an adolescent may become thoroughly addicted to alcohol, while an adult can take 5 to 15 years of drinking to become an alcoholic.

Undergoing a full recovery program is critical in overcoming an addiction to alcohol. Addiction is not a simple problem and its treatment could not be so straightforward: this is why, for a rehab center to provide effective treatment, it needs to have a variety of programs that can address all aspects of the addiction. Alcoholics suffer from a wide range of problems – physical, emotional and psychological – and each of this, and the issues belonging to it, has to be treated specifically by professionals who are most capable of understanding the patient’s condition and thus can provide the best solutions.

To overcome their addiction, recovering alcoholics also need to be in an environment that promotes clean living and introspection. Initially, this is to improve their health, but it is also essential because a clean, relaxing environment enhances the effects of the treatment. By providing such environment, a good alcohol addiction rehab center makes it easier for the patients to take in the lessons of the various programs.

Another aspect of treatment – one that is sometimes overlooked in other rehab centers – is encouraging the patients to open up. It has been observed that patients go through their treatment better and faster when they can directly deal with their problems, and the best way to start that is by making them discuss their problems with either their peers or personal therapist. This can only be done successfully if the patient is comfortable and feels that discussing the roots and consequences of their addiction will help in their recovery.

No treatment will be effective if patients do not discuss their problems. Even if patients stop their drinking and have a good environment while inside the rehab center, if they are not helped to resolve the causes of their alcohol addiction, they will quickly return to their harmful habits once they return to the life outside. Florida Alcohol Rehab customizes its treatment programs for each patient – making them spend more time on the type of treatments that produces the best results – to ensure that they the treatments gets through and leaves a lasting impression on each patient.

As much as possible, the treatment also tries to involve the patients’ family in the recovery process. Ultimately, the will and determination to change depends on the patient, but this can be greatly improved if the patient has the support and love of his family. As part of the treatment, Florida Alcohol Rehab invites the people closest to the patient to learn about alcohol addiction so that they can help the recovering alcoholic adjust and remain sober back in the larger society. It is only when a rehab center uses all these methods that its patients get a high chance of sobering up and leading a productive life.

If you’ve never loved someone with an addiction problem this article may not make any sense. If you’ve loved someone with an illness for which there is no cure it will. That is because up until now there has been no potentially definitive cure for alcohol addiction. Whilst many have become sober through the traditional routes of AA and rehab, a much greater number have not. There are moments in history when we can change things and make things a better place. We are at that moment in history with alcohol addiction. For those of you out there who love someone who is addicted to alcohol there is now real hope. But things have to change before we can declare victory and before change can happen there needs to be some education about the causes and the effects of alcohol addiction – not just amongst lay people but those in the medical and addiction professions. The first and most important point to make is: we’ve never met an addict who wilfully set out to become addicted. Their addiction is almost always masking a pre-existing mental health disorder which in many cases is acute anxiety which has never been properly diagnosed or treated. Anxiety can have physical affects – panic attacks are a common problem; emotional affects – with feelings of apprehension and dread very common; cognitive affects – fear of suspected dangers like dying and behavioural affects like withdrawing from situations where unpleasant effects of anxiety have been experienced in the past. If you love someone with anxiety they will no doubt look very normal and behave quite normally. But there may be small signs that give you a clue like sweaty palms, anxiety about social situations, disturbed sleep patterns, nail biting and foot tapping.Whilst these are relatively minor external symptoms, the anxiety they feel will not be minor and their anxiety will start to increasingly impinge upon and affect their lives. That explains why when someone with acute anxiety first tastes alcohol they will already be at risk of addiction because the drug will hit their brain and make them feel normal probably for the first time in their lives. You hear that over and over again in AA meetings and rehab in answer to the question why do you drink? Answer: because it makes me feel normal. And so the connection with the brain chemistry is made from that very first drink and someone with acute anxiety who experiences this feeling of euphoria will continue to take alcohol in increasingly large doses and so start the journey into dependency and then full-blown addiction. This will not only spell future disaster for the addict unless they turn it round, it will also lead to broken relationships and devastation within families of addicts as they try to help in vain.

Up until now if you loved an alcoholic the only “treatment” you may have heard about is AA or rehab. In fact many who love an alcohol addict have no real knowledge or information about what to do and may not even understand the options until their loved one eventually ends up needing emergency treatment to help with physical withdrawals or has an accident. So what about the drinker. What have been your best hopes for recovery historically? Alcoholics Anonymous is probably the most famous. It is an international organisation whose primary purpose is to help members stay sober and help others achieve sobriety using the 12 Steps which in summary is a process to help them accept they are powerless over alcohol and that a higher power than themselves (not necessarily God) will help them to achieve this. Interestingly, they avoid discussing the medical nature of alcohol addiction despite the fact that they will almost all be suffering from a primary mental health disorder.AA was founded in 1935 by Bill Wilson and Dr Bob Smith in the US who, as alcoholics, found that by supporting and talking to each other they could maintain their sobriety in a much easier way. Whilst it is an organisation which is credited with helping many alcoholics achieve and maintain sobriety there are high drop-out rates in the first year and relapse rates. It does not suit everyone. Despite this the medical and addiction professions have not moved much further forward with the fundamental diagnosis and treatment of alcohol addiction. Go to the most expensive rehab centres in the world and their methods will almost always certainly be based around the 12 Step Programme developed by the members of AA and with cognitive and other counselling services and attendance at AA will be the recommended post-care treatment. These approaches have worked for some and are to be applauded but many of us have tried and paid a lot of money to find sobriety in this way and that is why new treatments such as those described in our book are exciting and particularly the discovery by French-American cardiologist Prof Ameisen – who became addicted to alcohol when self-medicating his own acute alcohol addiction – that a drug commonly prescribed for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) can cure alcohol addiction – if taken in the right way and to the right dose – by reducing the cravings and eventually making the patient indifferent to alcohol. As it is also a muscle relaxant it also helps to treat the underlying cause of the addiction which is in many cases acute anxiety.Whilst the science behind this is not yet completely understood what we do know is that it is already having spectacular results. The problem here in the UK is that baclofen whilst available on prescription for MS is not yet available to alcohol addicts and, indeed, many of the medical trials that have been set up or are being set up are only going to use doses which so far have proved ineffectual in treating addiction. We are calling on the Government and the medical establishment to take the opportunity to change history and the future for many addicts and the families who love them. It feels to me like the treatments we use for addiction today are medieval. We must understand and treat the route cause of the mental health problems that cause addition and help those who are already addicted. Baclofen needs to have proper trials in the UK and be made available on prescription. If a new cheap, safe and widely available (these are the key characteristics of Baclofen) cancer drug had just been discovered and the Government and medical professions were taking time to do medical trials and not using the dose levels which research suggests are needed to treat the problem there would be a public outcry. That is why we are calling for change. Alcohol addiction happens to people who are already ill with mental health disorders such as acute anxiety and that is why they deserve and need as much help as someone terminal cancer or other life threatening diseases. We must move this treatment on, we must save lives on the grounds of basic humanity.

The more success is discovered using hypnosis for alcohol addiction the more sense it makes to engage in the process. Many addicts have the dual challenge of battling physical urges and well as recognizing and dealing with mental triggers. Hypnosis can help just about any addict learn how to deal with these issues on a whole different level.

During an addiction the addict puts into play a host of emotional responses that leads them right back to the bottle. What hypnosis can do is help the brain in effect rewire itself in order to find new ways of dealing with emotional issues. Hypnosis can also create relief for the very significant and real physical withdrawal symptoms and subsequent cravings.

The more open minded an addict is the more they will benefit from using hypnosis for alcohol addiction. If the addict is willing to try this rather impressively successful method of treatment on several occasions, there is a good probability that it will work and it will work well. Allowing the mind to realize that there are other options to drinking helps the mind go straight to making different decisions when it is stressed.

There are many addicts who have had only on session of hypnosis for alcohol addiction and have been able to stay sober. There are others who have had to go through weekly sessions in order to maintain their sobriety.

No matter how often, the most important aspect of using hypnosis for alcohol addiction is realizing that it is a helpful tool rather than some sort of magic potion. You will still have to put in the effort to uncover your reasons for drinking. Hypnosis is just one way to make that process easier and more enlightened.

Hypnosis has been proven to help many addicts of all kinds break free from their addictions. There are certified hypnotherapists that can help an addict reach a new level of self awareness and self control.

Question by Greg C: Alcohol rehab without health insurance?
My friend needs to go into rehab for an alcohol addiction. Unfortunately, he recently lost his job (doesn’t get Cobra; not sure what the deal is with that) and his health insurance will soon be terminated, I think at the end of this week. What are his options, aside from shelling out five figures?

Oh, and it’s important to note that he’s never really in a crisis situation, like where he has to go to the ER to get his stomach pumped… he just drinks heavily throughout the day when left to his own devices. He’s agreed he needs help, but the health insurance thing is getting in the way.

thanks for advice.

Best answer:

Answer by Artemisc
I had the same situation with a friend. I called the county alcohol abuse hot line, they hooked me up with a facility that would charge it to the state. They had a bed available and he went in that night. Granted, it was only for 7 days but it had a positive effect, and didn’t cost him anything.

One thing to keep in mind, if he isn’t ready, they don’t push it. It won’t work unless he wants to do it.

Alcohol is used as a celebratory gesture in just about every culture across the globe. It’s used for New Years, Christmas, birthdays, weddings, graduations, bar mitzvahs, and to commemorate just about any special occasion. In America, it’s almost like an earned rite of passage, where the elders hand the younger partygoers a sip…ah…and then it’s love at first sip.

It’s no wonder alcoholism runs in families. Few people actually wait until the legal drinking age of 21 to drink. Sometimes, adolescents take up drinking so early on, that by the time they’ve reached actual drinking age, they’ve become full-blown alcoholics.

These young adults go onto college where it’s considered socially acceptable to get hammered every weekend, and for the “week night warriors,” even close out the bars on a Monday or Tuesday night! After graduation, it continues into the workforce…and it never stops.

Or if it does, it’s already too late, as the Effects of Alcoholism have already manifested in the body, causing liver problems, a suppressed immune system, high blood pressure, heart and respiratory problems, and even brain damage. If that isn’t enough to steer you clear of that weekly drinking binge, perhaps these facts will:

1) Around 76 million people worldwide suffer from some type of alcohol-related disorders including excessive drinking and alcoholism.

2) Alcohol consumption increases the risk of developing certain cancers including lip, tongue, throat, esophagus, liver, and breast cancer. These types of cancers aren’t just related to alcoholism – even three drinks a day can cause these cancers, according to the American Cancer Society.

3) Alcohol abuse cost the United States an estimated 0-billion in 2005, more than cancer (6-billion) and obesity (3-billion)

4) People who begin drinking as teenagers are four times more likely to develop alcohol-related disorders than those who wait until age 21 to consume their first drink.

5) According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2008, 11,773 people in the U.S. died in drunk-driving accidents. Every 45 minutes, someone is killed in an alcohol-impaired driving collision.

6) Four people under the age of 21 die each day because of alcohol-related traffic incidents.

7) Children with alcoholic parents are up to 10 times more likely to abuse alcohol themselves.

According to suicide statistics, 15-20% of suicides involve alcohol

9) ‘Binge drinking’ is defined as drinking five or more drinks at one time. Long term binge-drinking are known to cause liver disease, cancer, pancreatitis, and heart disease. These binge-drinking sessions don’t need to be weekly either. Even irregular heavy drinking can cause these diseases.

10) In 2007 one-fifth of adults (20%) ages 18-25 were classified as needing Alcohol Abuse and Addiction Treatment and Drug Abuse Treatment – that’s an estimated 6.9 million people!

While these facts are alarming, it’s important to know that there are programs out there, all across the nation that can help people get sober and defeat their alcohol addictions before it’s too late. Alcohol Abuse Recovery can be a long, difficult road, but it’s worth it when a person no longer seeks alcohol to fill a void in their lives – that much-sought-after happiness will come from within.

Every addict is a unique individual with unique individual needs. By the same token, every successful addiction treatment program must be specially tailored to a patient’s personal case history. Unfortunately, some of the most high-priced private addiction treatment centers in Los Angeles fail to put this principle into practice, choosing instead to offer generic treatment programs to their clients. For your own sake, don’t make the mistake of trusting your health to one of these institutions.

Addiction recovery is an extraordinarily delicate process. It can only succeed if it’s managed the right way, by people who understand exactly what they’re doing. To settle for the services of an inferior rehab center is to doom oneself to failure. If you’re serious about getting sober, it’s vital that you find an effective addiction treatment center that can care for you as you deserve to be cared for.Cliffside Malibu has a worldwide reputation for excellence in the field of addiction treatment and recovery. Much of that esteem, in turn, can be attributed to Cliffside’s unfailing emphasis on personalized rehabilitation programs. It’s one reason why it’s the most exclusive addiction cure center Malibu has to offer. Cliffside’s clinical experts understand that each of their clients must ultimately pursue his or her own path to recovery. Here’s hoping you’ll be wise enough to let them you show you the way forward.

Article by stopdrinkingnowreviews

On a sober day many alcoholics believe that they would be able to give up alcohol without alcohol addiction help, unfortunately when it comes to actually quitting many never succeed. The idea of drinking only during social occasions is a very appealing one however rarely will an alcoholic be able to only drink during social situations. For most alcoholics alcohol is still in control of their thought process and any idea of actually quitting rarely comes to fruition.

Deciding to drink socially might work if the individual has a support network through a rehabilitation service or other alcohol addiction help centers. Unfortunately the reality is that Alcoholism is an addictive disease however it is a disease that can be cured through self determination and will power.

Most alcoholics will agree that the idea of only having the odd drink is nearly impossible.

For a recovering alcoholic the idea of even having an odd drink is enough to make them break out into a sweat. People who have been dry for years can easily fall off the wagon after taking a simple drink; and getting back on to the wagon is more difficult the second time around.

A female friend of mine, who is an alcoholic, managed to get alcohol addiction help once she found out she was pregnant. Everyone was impressed with her will power and she had a beautiful and healthy son. Unfortunately her husband brought out a bottle of champagne to celebrate the special occasion and the one glass was enough to take her back to dependency on alcohol.

While there are thousands of stories out there they all have the same beginning and the same sad ending. Deciding to quit drinking is a difficult decision to make and the decision to stay sober is an ongoing one that requires loads of will power and support.

The stop drinking advice blog is a great place to find others who have gone though what you are and can give advice as well as alcohol addiction help to get you through this difficult time in your life.

Some of us have had the misfortune of seeing a person addicted to either drugs or alcohol from close quarters. And some of us have had the grave misfortune of being addicted ourselves. While the problems that a drug or alcohol addicted person has to put up cannot be underestimated, the fact of the matter is that millions of people have successfully got back their normal lives because of the treatment that they have received at rehab centers.

In the last decade, many people fell prey to OxyContin because they could get it easily and also because they could get 12 hours of drug at one go by simply crushing the pill and injecting or sniffing it. One of the people who was trapped in this net was Shawn Clusky. He was only seventeen when he started taking this pill and eventually got addicted. At last he could get rid of the addiction after going to a rehab.

If you wish to undergo proper drug treatment or alcohol treatment; you should choose a really good rehab center because this is the best way to ensure a happy and normal life. When you are looking for rehab center, you should ask some important questions.

The first question that you should ask is whether they customize the treatment plans for all the patients. This is important because all the people who need drug treatment or alcohol treatment do not have similar problems. Most people have unique reasons for becoming dependant on addictive substances. Therefore, the drug treatment or the alcohol treatment should be designed according to the unique problem that the patient faces.

You should also ask about what steps are taken to ensure that the patient will be able to resist the temptation of doing drugs or getting drunk even after leaving the rehab center. This is important because the patient has to be ready to take on the challenge of living in a world where he will have access to the very substances that he should assiduously avoid. Usually one-on-one counseling enables patients to understand the nature of their problem and also learn the techniques they ought to use to deal with the addiction.

Apart from providing drug treatment or alcohol treatment, good rehab centers also enable patients to get back to normal life by arranging for fitness programs. Hence, choose the right rehab center so that you or the person you love gets to live a happy life again!

Alcohol Addiction – A Problem That Affects Millions

Alcohol can be the cause of a lot of good times, but it can also be the cause of a lot of pain for many people. Research suggests that alcoholism affects anywhere from 15 to 30 million people at any given time. The effects of having too much to drink can be absolutely devastating to one’s life. If you are currently suffering, here are a few tips on how to deal with alcohol addiction.

Recognize There is a Problem

The first thing that you need to realize is that an alcohol addiction is extremely dangerous. Alcoholism is considered by many experts to be a drug addiction. With every drink, you are slowly killing your body and brain cells. There are extreme adverse health effects that you may be putting on yourself. So, the first step is to recognize that there is a real problem.

Talk To Someone About It

The next thing that you should do is to talk to someone about it. If you are concerned with how to deal with alcohol addiction, then you should not be facing this problem alone. Try to talk to someone that is close to you – possibly a friend or a relative. Tell them that you realize that you have a problem and that you need help. Oftentimes people have alcohol addictions because they do not want to face other problems in their life. It may help you to clear your mind by venting to someone who wants to listen to you.

Get Treatment

Eventually, you may want to take steps to find an alcohol addiction treatment center. It may be to your advantage to find a treatment center where you can live during treatment. This will help you in many ways. You may be able to be provided with medication that can help ease withdrawal symptoms. You will also most likely be monitored for any medical problems that you might encounter during recovery.

It can be hard to know how to deal with alcohol addiction. But the most important step is the first one – recognizing that there is a problem and beginning the healing process.

Different retrieval programs take different accesses, but the idea is fundamentally the same – if you are suffering from alcohol addiction and cannot curb your habit, then you are likely an alcohol dependent. These programs utilize medicinal drugs to help the alcohol dependent deal their intoxicant drug withdrawal.

Before a person can enter into an alcohol retrieval program, he or she must acknowledge they have alcohol addiction as most of the times it passes off that rather than confronting the truth, peoples who are not fixed to deal with alcohol retrieval will make apologies for and decline their drink.

Question by Taziketoro: Should we ban alcohol?
There has been a lot of talking about legalizing marijuana lately and it seems like most opponents of it are against it because marijuana can be dangerous and addictive and a gateway to harder drugs. These arguments are not surprising but what does surprise me is that these people are not advocating banning alcohol. I wonder why not.

If you look at the effects of alcohol it is clear that alcohol is actually a very dangerous drug, in some ways more dangerous than heroin. The high people get from alcohol many times has immediate negative effects such as aggression, being too sexually uninhibited, acting insensibly , etc. Many crimes are committed under the influence of alcohol. When alcohol addiction sets in the addict many times loses their ability to function normally because of the drug’s effects, unlike heroin addicts that can function well if provided with a steady, legal dose of heroin. The withdrawal symptoms from alcohol are much more severe than those of heroin and other opiates. While heroin withdrawal is very uncomfortable it is very rarely deadly but withdrawal of alcohol is sometimes life threatening.
Alcohol is much more of a gateway drug than marijuana and has a serious effect on the young people who use it. Many teens have sex for the first time under the influence of alcohol and it’s often unprotected sex. The teens that took part in the infamous hazing incident in a Chicago suburb a few years ago where drinking beer as they were hazing the younger students. Many teens have died in drunk driving incidents and many others have ended up in hospitals from overdosing on alcohol, so called alcohol poisoning.

I could go on. Wouldn’t you think though that a drug that does this to so many people should be banned to prevent these kinds of injuries on people? What do you think? Should alcohol be banned. Why or why not?

Best answer:

Answer by Sophia
Very good point. Although most teens my age like to be wild with alcohol, I have always been an opponent of it. More of a prohibitionist really lol. I think it should be banned for the reasons you stated: It harms the person who does it, possibly spurring an alcohol problem, and it has the potential to harm people who don’t abuse the substance. Just like gun control laws; they aren’t put in place to protect those who practice gun safety, but to guard us against those who abuse the power and become violent. Definitely get rid of alcohol, and keep Marijuana illegal. Alcohol is more powerful that pretty much any substance we need a prescription to get.

How do you define alcohol addiction? Alcohol addiction, according to WordNet by Princeton University, involves habitual alcohol use or consuming a lot of alcohol for a long period of time, which causes a person to suffer serious health problems and to develop even further health problems if they stop using alcohol suddenly.

Alcohol addiction occurs over a long period of time when someone uses alcohol excessively. Often, people drink as a way to deal with stress. People who have issues with the balance of stress hormones are more likely to develop an alcohol addiction. Also, people who do not have the ability to cope with stress mask their problems with alcohol. If people can’t cope in other ways, alcohol may seem like the solution if they face depression or are afraid. Other people start drinking because of peer pressure and don’t stop.

Signs of Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol addiction displays itself in many different ways. One symptom is that a person is unable to have just one drink even if he tries. Also, people with a problem will drink by themselves instead of in social situations. They drink at any time of the day and attempt to keep others from knowing about their drinking. They actually become very physically dependent on alcohol. They have a craving for alcohol at all times from when they get up until they go to sleep and all day long.

Alcohol addiction causes people to experience physical and mental problems of all sorts depending on the person. Often, the first sign that there is a problem is that the person won’t admit he has a problem. Physical symptoms of alcohol addiction can include things like having blackouts, weight loss, flushed face, slurred speech, dizziness, and clumsiness.

Addicts also experience things like stomach pain or upset that won’t go away. They also get a tingly sensation or numb sensation in their hands or feet. When these people stop drinking, they have withdrawal symptoms like an upset stomach, the shakes and sweating if they don’t drink for a long period of time.

Alcohol addictions can also include mental symptoms like not being able to stop at only one drink, feeling irritable and agitated, and having severe emotional outbursts. People who have an alcohol addiction tend to have to drink more and more to get the high. They don’t want to hang around other people who don’t drink or do things not involving drinking. They may not show up as promises to events with friends and family. They also tend to miss a lot of work, sleep all the time or not be able to sleep at all.

People who have an alcohol addiction tend to drink by themselves where others won’t see them. They stop doing things they used to enjoy and they hide alcohol around the home. An alcohol addiction can cause a lot of legal troubles, relationship troubles, job troubles, or financial troubles.

If a person can overcome his alcohol addiction, he can be in control of his life again. This takes getting help from others. It is nearly impossible to overcome an alcohol addiction without help. There are a lot of different treatment options for people who have an alcohol addiction.

Question by Dan: I’m a moderately heavy drinker, am I in danger of death due to alcohol withdrawal?
So on average I’ll have between 4-11 drinks in a normal 4-7 hour session between 4-5 days per week, 99% of the time its just beer. I’ve recently decided to pretty much stop for a while, which is no big deal for me. I’ve been able to stop whenever I’ve wanted in the past, however sometimes subconciously I feel that I have a pretty slightly moderate dependance, not necessarily a physical addiction but more or so less psychological.

I’ve experienced small to very moderately low symptoms of withdrawal, mainly the normal hangover symptoms the first day (headache, dehydration, sensitivity to certain sounds or lights), and later on some slight agitation (just having a short fuse or less patience with some things) as well as some moderate emotionally negative feelings here and there with some slight anxiety.

Basically I just wanted to clarify how intense my symptoms were, I do know they are there but it seems that they definitely aren’t as heavy as some other peoples in more extreme situations. At what point would I know if my body is in danger of possible death due to alcohol withdrawal?

As always, judgmental ignorance, opinionated attacks, and/or useless remarks will be ignored. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Joseph
Dude withdrawing should be no problem for you. I have a friend who have drank an 18 pack a night for the last 15 years and he completely cold turkey ed and now he doesn’t drink.. Death is not something to worry about when quitting.. Sure at times you’ll feel like shit but still man you’ll save alot of money and will actually enjoy being sober.
