Because I tried outpatient rehab once and didn’t stick with it, he is positive that “rehab” of any sort would be a useless waste of money. I keep thinking of all the money I currently spend on wine…. This has been going on for three years, ever since I had gastric bypass and could no longer fulfill my food addiction. I apparently just replaced that addiction with the addiction to alcohol. ANY help would be appreciated!

I want to stop drinking again. I had stopped for 9 months and had a sip of my friends margarita at a restaurant. My sponsor told me I obviously wasn’t committed to quitting b/c of this. I felt like that whole nine months was a waste and the thought of starting over made me freak out. She told me I might as well get drunk since I had messed up. She also had tried to make me quit taking lexapro against my doctors advice. Those AA people are NOT doctors many of them don’t even have a college degree yet they act like they are the gods of alcohol. So I am asking where else I can go. Please don’t tell me this was just my group, I went all over the city of phoenix and they were all alike.
I’m doing an essay on why marijuana should remain illegal. I know that a lot of you would disagree with me, but that’s not what I’m asking. All I need now is to add a closing paragraph and then I’m done. What do you think I should put as my closing paragraph? Thanks.
Here’s my essay:

drug addiction and drug abuse, chronic or habitual use of any chemical substance to alter states of body or mind for other than medically warranted purposes. Traditional definitions of addiction, with their criteria of physical dependence and withdrawal (and often an underlying tenor of depravity and sin) have been modified with increased understanding; with the introduction of new drugs, such as cocaine, that are psychologically or neuropsychologically addicting; and with the realization that its stereotypical application to opiate-drug users was invalid because many of them remain occasional users with no physical dependence. Addiction is more often now defined by the continuing, compulsive nature of the drug use despite physical and/or psychological harm to the user and society and includes both licit and illicit drugs, and the term “substance abuse” is now frequently used because of the broad range of substances (including alcohol and inhalants) that can fit the addictive profile. Psychological dependence is the subjective feeling that the user needs the drug to maintain a feeling of well-being; physical dependence is characterized by tolerance (the need for increasingly larger doses in order to achieve the initial effect) and withdrawal symptoms when the user is abstinent.
Definitions of drug abuse and addiction are subjective and infused with the political and moral values of the society or culture. For example, the stimulant caffeine in coffee and tea is a drug used by millions of people, but because of its relatively mild stimulatory effects and because caffeine does not generally trigger antisocial behavior in users, the drinking of coffee and tea, despite the fact that caffeine is physically addictive, is not generally considered drug abuse. Even narcotics addiction is seen only as drug abuse in certain social contexts. In India opium has been used for centuries without becoming unduly corrosive to the social fabric.
The United States has the highest substance abuse rate of any industrialized nation. Government statistics (1997) show that 36% of the United States population has tried marijuana, cocaine, or other illicit drugs. By comparison, 71% of the population has smoked cigarettes and 82% has tried alcoholic beverages. Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug.
No one, absolutely no one does anything without a reason or with out leverage of some sort. The same holds true for addiction of any kind. If there is no reason to get clean and sober, they won’t. If nothing ever happens that is all that bad, they won’t. Many just keep lowering their standards. In our current economic down turn, we will see more and more individuals falling deeper into their addictions. The truly sad part is the family will watch, not having a clue what to do, or the resources for solution.

Options to Alcoholics Anonymous, 12-Step Programs Detailed in First-Ever Descriptive Resource Guide; Finally Actual Help for Alcoholism and Drug Addiction
“AA doesn’t really sounds like a ‘evidence-based program,” claims Melanie Solomon, author of a contemporary book exhibiting options to AA for getting rid of alcohol and drug abuse. “In actuality, it doesn’t deliver the results for the vast majority of families.”
A saved pill drug abuser who experienced AA morally defeating, Solomon composed her recently launched 2nd Edition of “AA Not the Solely Way,” to expose light on many other ways and treatment solution programs that do the job as well as or a lot better than AA to receive help for alcoholism and drug addictiton.

I’m a 16 year old male. I’ve had to put up with experiences of seing my brother rot away in alcohol. Many days of seing him drinking litre bottles of vodka, through the little space in the door. He’s been doing this a long time now and it’s breaking our family’s emotions, he is very selfish and carefree i truly think as he does not listen to people in various occassions of heavy drinking, my sister is just neglecting him now as she has helped him so much in the past, but enough is enough for her, because he just keeps repeating himself.
He has been to rehab for 6 months previously.
