I’m talking about alcohol; is drinking after you’ve completed rehab and therapy for it illegal? Or is that only for drugs like crack and marijuana? Or does rehab not even matter at all?
Before even more cunt flaps call me stupid, know this: I don’t do drugs. I don’t know fucking shit about them. Okay? All I know is my mom is drinking again and my friend was wondering if it’s illegal. I saw her at rehab and they were dealing crack there. Crack is illegal just as marijuana is, so I wouldn’t fucking know. Stop yelling at me behind a computer screen because you do drugs and therefore know more about them. Mkay pumpkins?

By the way, if the question’s been answered, what makes you think I’m gonna pick your shit-tastic one?
Also, I wasn’t asking about the fucking marijuana. I just used it as an example for ‘illegal’ drugs. You people just cannot wait to call people stupid on a question site, can you?

This site is to rid people of ignorance, not assure them on it.

Now get off my cock.

In Jan. of 2008 I was perhaps an hour away from dieing of an alcohol and klonopin overdose. I was hospitalized for a long time while trying to break my addictions. The withdrawal was awful. I was also using cocaine and percocet but not that specific night. Almost all of my “friends” knew that I was severely struggling with these addictions. My family also knew but we are not close at all. Nobody helped me or gave support, or even came to see me in the hospital. Now, over a year after I’ve been clean these same people come to me with their problems and expect me to help them. I feel bad about it but I really don’t have an interest in helping them. They were not there for me, I don’t feel as though I should be there for them. Am I in the wrong???

Don’t get me wrong, I know smoking is unhealthy, many people do not like the smell, and it can make a mess. However, as a smoker, it really bothers me how ignorant so many people are. I’ve had people shoot rather piercing glares at me just for smoking in a parking garage. Maybe I should scream bloody murder everytime someone in the parking garage decides to start up their car, because that also pollutes the air with chemicals that are bad for both the environment and health.

Here’s my take on smoking, as a smoker: yea, I wish I never started. It is expensive, nasty and unhealthy – however it seems to me that people really are dumb. It used to be people smoked because of marketing/advertising, ignorance (who would think inhaling the fumes from a burning substance might be unhealthy), and of course peer pressure. Today people practically go on crusades against smokers for the VERY SAME REASONS! In both cases people really AREN’T thinking for themselves. I find that really pathetic.

I don’t smoke in close proximity to non-smokers. I don’t smoke near open windows, entrances or exits. I even pack out my cigarette butts when I’m backpacking or camping. I know I should quit and I’ve tried before. But, as I have already said, all that aside… stop being so damned stupid, people.

Another tid bit I always found amusing. My mother was an RN for several decades. One of her nursing magazines ran an article about the addiction of tobacco. According to the article, nicotine is more addictive than cocaine.

Now at the same time alcohol is legal. Foods with ludricrous amounts of salt, sugar, preservatives and tons of other goodies are legal. Cigarettes are legal. Sitting out in the sun all day is legal. Not exercising is legal. In fact outside of suicide, I am no aware of any laws or regulations of any kind which require people NOT to live unhealthy lifestyles. This is a tangent of course. All of this is true, and yet marijuana is illegal. My point on this last little rant is simple.. STOP BEING STUPID PEOPLE! Stop. Think. Act. Don’t listen to propaganda. Get facts as best you can and weigh them. Then decide what is right, what is wrong, what is good, what is bad, etc.

Some people read books, have sex, use drugs, drink alcohol (also a druig by the way, so is caffeine and nicotine for that matter) as a form of escape. Video games, movies, television, theater.. these things CAN all be a form of ESCAPE. One might argue that escaping reality probably isn’t healthy behavior. So – shall we start making everything illegal? Villainize pretty much everything that is “bad”, unhealthy or otherwise taboo or undesirable?

One of my favorite books is The Wizards First Rule. I like the story and the series for that matter, but the reason I bring it up here is the title of the book. Do you know what the wizards first rule is?

Page six hundred and something tells you. Want to know what it is?

“People are stupid.”

Instant classic as far as I’m concerned.

I’m really not looking for an answer so much as I am making statements.

I know people who go to N.A. and A.A. and it is free, 2 of them even receive SSI payments as they are too “addicted” to work. I on the other hand, have a food addiction. I’m morbidly obese because of it, but Weight Watchers meetings charge me money to attend. Drug addicts have clinics they can go to for free medical care, I have to pay to go to gym. Mine addiction I’m told is one I can give up with will power, but they have a “disease”..I want to know why is it different? I am so tired of trying only to be shut down at every try and my health insurance would pay for me to go in rehab, but not for weight loss clinic or program. I feel like I should start being a druggie to get any help!
Let me give you a few details. I care for my 80 yr old mother and my 2 grandkids as their parents are off on drugs somewhere and I only get $335 from state to help pay for their care. I work 2 jobs just to pay bills and 1 of them is at fast food, the other is for insurance office. I cannot afford to buy better insurance and not eligible for state insurance because they say I make too much. By the end of working 14 hours a day M-F and 8 on Sat, plus all the housework, I am just too tired to work out. And there are plenty of free services for bulimia and anorxia, but not for food addition. I’m not making excuses I just want to know why the system is step up this way.
I eat for free at restaurant job and with the amount I earn I have to because the money has to go to pay for rent/utilities and childcare the state only allows me 40hours a week for the 2 kids. My grocery budget for 4 of us is $50 a week, so we eat as cheap as possible and yes that means alot of canned foods and such. People need to get off their high horses and walk a mile in someone elses shoes.

Once married, alot of people settle into who they are and their spouse should just “deal with it”. Life is about change, about growing and about compromise with your spouse. I feel alot of people end in divorce because they are not seeing their own failures in taking care of themselves and working on themself. Things such as, not working on your own addictions (alcohol, porn, internet, etc.), not working to communicate effectively, not working to make sound financial decisions. These all take willpower from oneself, not willpower for the sake of your spouse… you are the only person in control of your own decisions and when those decisions are no longer being made from a source with the willpower to grow and do better then they are choices made to contribute to the destruction of your marriage.

Just because you are married, does not mean your whole life is devoted only to love unconditionally… you can do that and still take care of yourself, in fact I think thats the most healthy way to be in a relationship. Its too difficult to be a relationship with someone that does not know how to confront problems, or communicate or anything. No matter who you are with… if you are not with someone that knows they have to figure out how to do that on their own without your constant pressure to make them learn then I believe marriages begin to fall apart.

what do you think?
Honeybee: Funny how you point out that somehow I say there are “conditions” to love, no I did not say that. I said when one stops working on themselves to do the best they can in their own life then they start to destroy their “marriage” not their love, their marriage.

But interesting how you said “I do of course have one “condition” …. and look, you have a condition!!!
sgt. dillers wife: I find it comical, that you find any way you can to put down someones view point. Yes, I did file for divorce, and through the motion of filing for that divorce alot of things have come to my mind and I thought I would just write about it. I did file for divorce, because I finally realized I cannot change my spouses behavior, he is in control of it. Its not my fault, its not anything I did intentionally to set hiim off or to drink every night. But I have made the sound choice, that my life is important and at this point staying married to him makes me feel powerless and bad about myself. I can love him, but I can’t make him want to make this marriage work. Thanks for your fine attempt at making my opinion worthless…. i’m sure your marriage is perfect and your a perfect person.

Alcohol abuse refers to the chronic consumption and craving for alcohol, so that it interferes in the normal social and economic functioning of the person. Alcohol Rehab tries to treat and bring back to normal victims of this condition.

The alcoholic is unable to stop his craving for drinking. He fails to complete his obligations at work or home. He undertakes activities that are dangerous in his condition, including drunk driving. He may encounter legal problems, and cannot and will not stop drinking despite personal, official and medical problems.

Alcoholism can be fatal. It affects the addict’s health in many ways. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is an irreversible condition associated with excessive consumption of alcohol by pregnant women. It leads to physical and mental deficiencies and even fetal death. Another killer condition is Cirrhosis, caused by alcoholism and leading to liver failure and death.

Alcohol Rehab must be done carefully by trained medical professionals. It involves evaluation and management of acute alcohol withdrawal, treatment of nutritional deficiencies, detoxification and the maintenance of abstinence.

Medical treatment of alcoholism involves initially the management of alcohol withdrawal. Treatment includes the use of thiamine and folate fed intravenously to prevent Wernicke Kosakoff syndrome (an eye disorder). Seizures must be treated with Benzodiazepines.

After medical management is over, a psychosocial Rehabilitation program must be undertaken. This includes educating the entire family of the patient, individual or group therapy, or even a spiritual ’12 steps to sobriety’ program given by Alcoholics Anonymous.

There are some important points to remember. Supervised withdrawal is the first step and must not be hurried. Hurry can be fatal. A medically supervised detox program is the first step. Next step is to choose a Rehab center. Find a treatment center that deals not only with addiction but the holistic picture of psychosocial and legal problems.

The program must involve a major amount of therapy–counseling and occupational. Therapy or counseling is critical for alcohol treatment. Patients learn to resist alcohol use, replace drug-using activities with constructive and rewarding activities. They are asked to shun alcohol abusing company. They also relearn normal family and social living patterns.

Treatment involves continuous monitoring for alcohol use. Some people may require medication for their treatment, and this too must be monitored. Some may be suffering from mental problems that need special treatment. The treatment duration may vary with each case, but 3 months is a safe period for most treatment.

The main point is that there is no singular Rehab formula. The success of treatment depends on finding the right program and methods. Effective treatment must address the patient’s drug use and also related medical, social, psychological, vocational and legal problems.

The treatment may be long-term, involving periods of relapse. The crucial point is not to give up hope, but work patiently till you reach complete abstinence.

Whenever I hear someone anti-drug nut job talking about “Gateway Drugs” they ALWAYS say that Marijuana is the only “Gateway Drug” that Crack and Heroin users started with…

Yet you look at our culture and the #1 DRUG in use is Alcohol… ALCOHOL starts users on the downward spiral into addiction…

You look at US Culture and no event, no gathering, no party exists without alcohol…

Each and every “Anti-Drug Crusader” I have ever encountered has no problem at all talking about how drugs need to be stopped while holding a cocktail in their hands…

Alcohol…
Nicotine…
Caffeine…

Between the 3 “Socially Acceptable Drugs” in US Culture… There are only about 4 people in the WHOLE COUNTRY that are not “Drug Users”.

But because these are “Legal” and “Socially Acceptable” drugs… no one bats an eye when a “junky” needs their Caffeine Fix in the morning to stop withdrawal and be able to function for the day…

(Cont.)
No one bats an eye when a “junky” needs that Martini after work to be able to Calm Down at the end of a stressful day…

Because these DRUGS are TAXABLE, they are legal… Despite the fact that Alcohol is 10X more dangerous to both body and mind then Marijuana… Despite the fact that Nicotine has NO LEGITIMATE MEDICAL USAGE and therefore should be classified under list of Schedule I drugs:

Schedule I Drugs are classified as drugs that:
*Has high potential for abuse.
*Has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
*There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

WHY do people continue to “Demonize” some drugs while massively abusing others that are actually MORE dangerous then other drugs that will get you put away for LIFE?
p.s. I live in the US and it is our CRAZY laws I’m talking about… I’ll deal with the REST of the world when we get the US Sorted out! LOL!

tell me what u get out of reading this article

Many misleading urban legends about cannabis exist. Like LSD rumors, many were spread by anti-drug groups during the 1960s and are believed to continuously circulate today. These widespread legends claim that it is easy to overdose on the smokable variant of cannabis and that it is extremely dangerous and addictive when compared to alcohol and nicotine, when in fact alcohol and nicotine, the drugs that are claimed to be safer, are actually considered as hard drugs and both can be very addictive. Furthermore, scaling up from animal studies, a average human would need to ingest about 1.8kg of cannabis to overdose. Cannabis is not physically addictive, but can be (like all things) psychologically addictive, though this form of addiction tends to occur only after someone has been using the drug habitually[5]. Also, there are studies that show no actual increased risk of cancer from smoking marijuana, even when duration of use is expanded over several years (this could be because THC allows cells to die faster).[6] In fact, some studies indicate THC to have anticancer properties, with studies showing tumor reduction in mice.

i don’t make use of marijuana, however i am bothered by hypocrisy. ive been studying law and was particularly intrigued by the fact that in many states (such as VA) possession of minimal amounts of marijuana is considered a class 1 misdemeanor. Since my dad is a doctor i asked him if marijuana was very damaging to a persons body and mind. he told me look: marijuana is bad for you for many reasons (can trigger certain mental disorders and is partially damaging to the lungs, and its a motivation killer) however it is not as damaging as alcohol and cigarette (he says if i had to have an addiction he rather have me be addicted to marijuana than cigarettes or alcohol.)
the difference in damaging effects is so grand that i do not even have to list the bad effects of alcohol and cigarettes for you probably already know them (something you might not know. alcohol can also trigger mental illnesses).

in conclusion: it is crazy for me to think that marijuana is illegal because of its negative effects on the body and mind (in a county where alcohol and cigarettes are legal). honestly a person can suffer the same psychological damage from life experience and can suffer the same lung damage from living in an industrial city such as Beijin or new york.
there are people who become schizophrenia after a divorce or because of a traumatic experience in their child hood.
Ayana if you honestly think that people don’t already make use of pot and that legalizing it would not increase the number of pot users by that much (if at all). then you are not in touch with the real world. marijuana abusers use pot wether it is legal or not .. i mean did alcohol prohibition stop people from drinking? look that up because im pretty sure it resulted in increased profit in mafia and other crime organizations which thrive off prohibition. .. the same is happening as a result of pot prohibition.

Organize it yourself and do the best you can. There are more detailed alcohol intervention guides that can help you do this yourself. … Many addicts and alcoholics are afraid of groups, or afraid of being put on the spot in front of other people.
