Alcohol addiction abuse can be understood better when you recognize that the cravings are on a psychological and physical level which requires an individual to take action to cease the cravings. One of the most widely used treatment methods comes from Alcoholics Anonymous. They note that in the first of their twelve step program a person has “admitted we were powerless over alcohol – that our lives had become unmanageable”. These types of controlling psychological and physical cravings are the very issues that those with alcoholism addiction pursue and try to stop. Furthermore, when alcoholic addiction individuals ceases to drink and begins going through the agonizing withdrawal symptoms, this is usually a reason for them to begin to drink again in so that they can stop the horrible pain that is experience with withdrawal.
In the area where the alcohol addiction abuse individual is not powerless is over their own actions. Even if the desire for alcohol is strong and the withdrawal aspects are extremely uncomfortable, the situation is still within that person’s ability to take no action to terminate the cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Strictly speaking, it is within the alcoholism addiction person’s power to resist consuming an alcoholic beverage. It is true that this is easier said than done and many alcoholics are not convinced that they have enough power to truly resist. Feelings of powerlessness to refrain from taking consuming alcohol stays strong as they regard the cravings and withdrawal symptoms as something that is too overwhelming.

My wife is throwing her life away right now….drinking all day and night and is making poor choices. She does not want to be a mother or be married anymore. she is meeting guys online and falling for them easily and wants to meet these guys. She has an alcohol addiction but does not think she needs rehab. Last night she drank a 12 pack by herself in her room from 9pm to whenever she went to bed. Can I get her commited somehow?
Alcoholism has spread like an epidemic everywhere around the globe. It is not only the young, but also the older people who are succumbing to alcohol addiction. It is often difficult to detect if a person is an alcoholic because they may have been drinking and yet doing all the work and activities that any “normal” person does. They are called functional alcoholics as they are very unaware of their problem, having always been able to perform all the day-to-day activities.
That is the reason why many people continue to drink and eventually get addicted to it. It is difficult to combat alcoholism and it if you choose to do so, it is a life-long battle which you have to fight. You need to have the will, determination and more importantly, the motivation, to see it through. Some people also get involved in various self-help groups where they meet others who are battling the same problem and can offer support to one another.

Alcohol addiction is a very common phenomenon. It helps in lowering your inhibition and relaxing each and every part of your body. The constant need to consume alcohol would be termed as alcoholism. Similar to alcohol you can get addicted to gambling, eating and many other things which state your compulsive behavior. It is the question of physiological tolerance of your mind and the need to refrain yourself from continuing this act.
You will notice when you are sozzled you start acting in different. You have discovered a new language due to lack of control on your speech. If you are not a regular drinker you may start feeling drowsy at the first peg itself. If the alcohol content is very high you start emoting different feelings, sometimes happiness sometimes sadness. As and when the content increases you may start vomiting and may also suffer from breathing difficulties. The constant drinking causes damage to your body especially your liver. It also affects your nervous system which may develop into some serious illnesses. Chronic alcohol drinkers cause long term problems which can cause illnesses like liver cirrhosis and nerve damages. It is known that alcoholism is one of the leading causes for increasing number of deaths every year.

I’ve been with a controll freak/recovering alcoholic for 3 years who is also a licensed addiction counseler. I’m 25 just graduated from college and have enjoyed having drinks with friends. She told me recently that she needs to be with a non-drinking partner and has labeled me an alcoholic. I’ve been fine without drinking (no bad behavior or anything like that) but just not drinking is not enough for her, I also have to be working ‘the program’. So I havnt had even a sip of alcohol for a couple of months, I go to AA meetings, have a sponser, but I’m just not seeing it. For the past 4 years I have put my school first, got great grades, and when I did have drinks with my friends I usually (with just a few exceptions) would only have one or two and be done.
I feel that she is just completely obsessed with alcoholism and recovery, she goes to as many as three meetings a day!
Do i really have a problem, or is she just obsessed?
Alcoholism marriage is a serious and difficult social problem, destroying many happy marriage’s due to mental, physical abuse, financial problems and lack of physical satisfaction. Alcoholism marriage is one of the major causes of divorce in America and other parts of the world. For the marriage to get affected by alcoholism at least one partner has to be an addict. The definition of an addict is a person who is physically and mentally dependant on alcohol to such an extent that if he does not consume the required amount of the substance on daily basis he gets withdrawal symptoms. The withdrawal symptoms of alcoholism are as severe as the symptoms caused by alcohol addiction.

If you are worried about your drinking or a friend’s drinking, tell them – they need to make changes as soon as possible. It is much easier to cut back before drinking problems damage your health than it is once they are out of hand.
First steps: Keep a diary of your drinking – you may be surprised by how much you really do drink, and this can give you the motivation to cut down. It helps if you can talk your plans over with a friend or relative. Do not be ashamed to tell someone. Most real friends will be pleased to help – you may find they have been worried about you for some time.
