Glad you are doing better. I think you are confusing "rights" with "benefits". Benefits most always come with strings attached. Is complying with treatment a bad thing? As a taxpayer, I think it is a reasonable request to obtain a benefit. If it were a "loan" would you think that the bank was being unreasonable to expect that he stay sober especially if the only means to pay back the loan was his job?

i think you aren't telling the whole story, why couldn't he go back to the job he left? Also, i think that what ever helps your boyfriend with his problem is what you should be concerned with. He helped you, maybe you should step up and help him

To some degree it is unjustified. But since they are the ones who are holding the benefits so to speak, doing what they ask may be the only way he is going to be able to continue the benefits.

So he may win the battle so to speak, they will win the war.
I'm sorry, they kind of have him between a rock and a hard place.

How did they know he had an alcohol problem?
When asking for any type of help from the government, they will require you to do all kinds of things, if you do not comply, benefits can be terminated.
I know, it's crazy but that's how they work...

How did social services find out he had an alcohol problem? Can you prove that his addiction wasn't the cause of his job departure? I think you may get more helpful answers if you post this in the Law and Ethics section here:.?link=list&sid=396545448
